Hot Dog Cart at a Car Wash. Name That Hot Dog…

hot dog cart at a car washHey Slinger!

My good friend and HDP Premium member Roger Kotte just got a new location at a car wash. He wants to come up with a “signature” hot dog for that location.

Roger writes…

Hey Steve

We’ve been asked to set up at a car wash.

Any suggestions on a name for a dog that would go along with a car wash like “Wash Dog” and any suggestion for toppings for that dog.

We Appreciate U

How do you make a signature hot dog? Come up with a unique combination of condiments and toppings, then give that dog a name and put it on your menu, ideally with a picture of that hot dog.

Smart hot dog slingers do this to create word of mouth advertising, and to distinguish our hot dogs from the run of the mill gas station hot dog. This allows us to charge significantly more than the gas station or convenience store, plus it keeps customers coming back to get the dog that they can’t get anywhere else.

As long time readers of Hot Dog Cart News know, I serve many signature dogs from my own hot dog cart. My most famous is the Buffalo Cruncher which is a black angus beef dog topped with ranch dressing, Louisiana hot sauce, and French’s crunchy fried onion. Yum!

OK, folks – give Roger your best ideas for a signature hot dog with a car wash theme in the comments!

P.S. Here is a great way to make a digital photo menu for your hot dog cart.

  1. How about Dirty Dogs? I googled it and found one at the following link. I just may try it myself, as it has cumin, which is awesome. http://www.mnn.com/food/recipes/stories/5-hot-dog-recipes-to-suit-every-palate

  2. How about Chamois Dog, and serve it with a yellow napkin? or Salty dog (since most people are washing salt off of their vehicle this time of year) and serve it on a pretzel roll with celery salt (we call it Magic Dust)

  3. How about the “Shiner” with bright relish, yellow mustard and a strip of Hot sauce.

    The Smokies Mighty Dog

  4. Hello,

We are about to open and here a two dogs we are having.

BBQ Dog – Natural casing frank with smoked pulled pork, bbq sauce and if you want a dash of slaw. You could call it the Gulley Washer, because you will need a drink to “wash” it down.

Taco Dog – We take our beanless made from scratch chili, engulf the hot dog with it, add salsa, guacamole, sour cream and fritos on top. You could call it the Car Bomb because if you drop it in your car while going through the car wash, well, you get the picture.

  5. The “El Brilliante” dog! A dog topped with bacon, Borracho beans, queso fresco, cilantro and Chipotle mayonnaise. El Brilliante means the brilliant one…..shiny new!

  6. To all the slingers

Keep Slinging those dogs. We are going to play a lot of car wash songs from our phone to a boise speaker by bluetooth. Should be a good time.

Well you do there? Are you paying rent or a percentage?

  10. What’s the name of the car wash? Working the name of the car wash into a “customized” dog’s name.

  11. Here is an update Troy on our 1st time @ the car wash. Temp was 49 – sunny – winds 12mph with 20 to 25 gusts. We named a dog with the car wash name in it. It was called Western Dogg – it was an 8-1 dogg with BBQ sauce – Nacho cheese – and bacon bits for $3.00. It was a hit. We sell 8-1 Doggs on our cart for $2.00 with mustard-ketchup-onions and 5-1 Polish for $3.00 with mustard-ketchup-onions. They liked the toppings on the western so well they were asking for a Polish Western which we gladly added it to the polish for a $1.00 more they said it was worth every penny. Had tons of complements on all our products. Sold about 35 dogs and 25 polish from 11a – 2p. We can setup anytime we want NO RENT or PERCENTAGE. The car wash does between 300 – 400 cars on Saturdays and same for Sunday. We downloaded some car wash songs to our cell and we have a portable bose speaker we can play with bluetooth and played them. Let me know what you think Slingers.
