Hot Dog Cart Condiment Bottle Tip

Sticky Thanks

Slick little hot dog cart condiment bottle fix from Hot Dog Cart News reader Dick Charron. Dick writes…

I discovered a solution to a problem I was dealing with. How to cap the tips of the mustard and ketchup bottles. Home depot sells packages of rubber tips that fit the ends of the wire rack shelves they sell. They are white and fit very tightly over the tip of the dispenser. I have attached a couple of pictures of the tip on a shelf and on the bottle.

  1. Its 0130am in N.C. ANOTHER GREAT AMERICAN IDEA.I”m lovin these ideas…..Keep
    them coming !!!!!! 6-27-11

  2. Great Idea. I have been searching high and low for tops without having to pay an outrageous shipping fee. I will check this out today. Thanks

  3. this is a real practical, economica, l idea…….BUT I was the owner of a USDA meat processing plant and I cant help but point out that this rubber/plastic product is most likely not food grade and is being put in direct contact with food. Most of these products are petroleum based and leech petro chemicals. Enough to get someone sick? Probably not, but why take the chance.

Example of one that will? Deer hunters that cut thier deer and store the meat in garbage bags to transport or freeze the meat. I have seen deer meat turn turqoise green from contact with the petro based garbage bag.

When dealing with food, i always lean towards caution

  4. All plastics are petro-based, including our ketchup and mustard bottles. Different plastics have different properties. Some are more food-safe (polyethylene) and some are less but I can’t see these being a problem, especially when they are just being used as caps not containers. I would wager that an open bottle is worse from a sanitary standpoint. I’m going to get some of these today, wash them well and cap my bottles.

P.S. This is jut my personal opinion. When in doubt, ask your health inspector. Thank you Brian for your very valid comment.

  5. I think its a great idea, I use the bottles that aready have the caps attached to the tops, they don’t cost any more than a regular bottle, you can get them at walmart. they work great and you don’t have to worry about losing the caps.

  6. Hmm! Looks like the age old adage, “Necessity is the mother of invention,” really is true.
