We can all help Bruce, a fellow slinger.

Hi Steve,
Just wanted to say I had to shut down for the winter, although I had not planed on it due to my cancer coming back.  This is the 3rd time, but I plan to fight it with all I got cause I’ve got events and projects lined up in the spring.  But for now chemo has taken control of my energy, but if you could throw out to all the slingers out there to say a prayer, with God’s help I’ll get through this.
Thanks Steve
Bruce(The Smokies Mighty Dog)

If you are a praying person, please say one for Bruce.

If that’s not your thing, please take a moment and quietly wish him well in your heart.

Feel better soon Bruce and keep us posted!

Black Friday at HotDogProfits.com

No black Friday specials here. Why not?

Because I’m spending all day with my family. We’re going to a Christmas tree farm to cut our own tree, then the rest of the day we will be decorating the house, cooking good food, and probably renting a movie this evening.

Will I lose money today? Yes, I’m sure I will. Will that hurt? Yeah.

But losing a special day with my family would hurt more.

I hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful!

God bless, and I’ll see you on Monday.

-Steve

Happy Thanksgiving Slingers!

Dear Friends,

Holidays are a good time for us to stop and reflect on what makes each day so special. Friends, relatives, and valued customers are a large part of the answer.

On this Thanksgiving holiday, I want you to know that I appreciate our relationship and wish you and your family the best of the season and much success over the months and years ahead!

Sincerely,
Steve Schaible

Used Hot Dog Cart Clogged Water Line Fix

Got a clogged water line on your used hot dog cart? Follow along to see several ways to fix it.

****************************

Hi Steve,

I recently purchased a used hot dog cart made by Custom Sales & Service in Hammonton, NJ. It’s a model 525.  It was manufactured in 1985 and in great condition with 1 exception.  The water to the cold faucets will not flow, they barely drip and it is apparent there must be an obstruction. (Hot water flows fine).

I contacted the manufacturer and purchased the owner manual yesterday but it did not have a schematic of the plumbing.  I sent an e-mail to the company asking if they had any thoughts or suggestions on how to determine the issue and or is it possible to remove the stainless steel skin and get inside the box and re-plumb it.

Does anyone have an older 525 cart that has experienced a similar issue?

Mr. Bill

*****************************

Hi Bill,

The 525 is a very well made cart so congrats on that.

A few thoughts…

First, gravity feed water systems (no pump) are notorious for trickling and clogging. There just isn’t enough pressure to keep the pipes clean. However there are some advantages to gravity feed systems, namely they conserve water very well.

So, is there a water pump on your cart? I know the older 525 comes stock with a gravity feed system (no pump) but perhaps a pump was installed at some time in the cart’s life. If there is a pump, perhaps it is only plumbed into the hot water line? Probably not, but check anyways.

Next, try blowing out the cold water line with compressed air. Open the cold water faucet. Get a piece of modeling clay and mold it around your air hose nozzle. Push the clay down on the water fill fitting and hold it on firmly with your hand. This will create a seal for the air pressure. Blow out the line and see if anything comes out. You can also do this with a small amount of water in the tank. Forcing water through the plumbing helps flush out partial obstructions that air can just pass by.

If that doesn’t work you will need to access the interior of the hot dog cart so you can replace that cold water line. Try to find an access door, go through a cooler access hole, etc.

If you don’t have such access, take a look at the bottom side of the hot dog cart and see if you can remove the flooring. This is a lot better than trying to remove a side or top skin because you don’t have to worry about cosmetics. If you need to get rough and bend or cut things, it won’t show.

How to remove the sheet metal skin. If the skin is riveted on, just drill out the rivets. You can re-rivet them with a pop rivet gun from the local hardware.

If the skin is welded on, you can drill out the spot welds with a carbide bit, or grind through them with a hand held die grinder. As above, reattach the skin by drilling an 1/8 inch hole through the skin and the frame, then fasten with pop rivets.

Once you get inside it should be a simple matter to replace the clogged water line.

Let us know what you ended up doing Bill.

OK slingers, did I miss anything? How would you tackle this used hot dog cart repair project?

Hot Dog Cart Cutting Board Source (NSF)

It’s that time of year.

“What time is that,” you say?

It’s cart rehab time! (Or cart building time if you don’t already have one.)

One upgrade that is easy to do and makes a huge difference is adding a custom cutting board.

Cutting boards are made of food safe polyethylene and health inspectors love them as a food prep surface.

Polyethylene is easy to cut with a jig or circular saw, easy to drill, and easy to mount on your cart with a few stainless screws.

“I found this site for cutting board material. I have not used them yet but their products and prices seem really good. Maybe someone can use this info.

I am rebuilding and upgrading a cart for myself and really enjoy your site. A lot of helpful info!

Thanks Steve, Clancy

I’m glad you find our hot dog cart building videos so helpful in your cart restoration project. Thanks for joining us Clancy, and thanks for the cutting board material source!

How To Get Your Hot Dog Business on Google

Hot Dog Profits Premium
member David has a great question about getting your hot dog business listed on Google.

Here is some background info on David’s question: Every Hot Dog Profits Premium and Value membership includes a free hot dog business website that my marketing team builds for you. David just got his.

Here is David’s  excellent question…

Hey Steve,

How are ya? I’m sending this to ask if you think it would be a good idea to start posting updates or info in the blog on the “find us” page now, while I’m running the contest? Will they still be able to see the post since that can only see the contest page when they go to the website? I’m asking because I wanted to start posting to attract search engines like mentioned in the tips. I just want to put something on there….probably saying no pork or the time table for opening…..something like a letter from the owner saying hello, thank you, and giving an update.

David

******************

Yes, you can post updates to the blog immediately. In fact, it’s a very good idea.

The posts won’t be visible to the the public until you convert the website over to the “up and running” version (explained in the tutorial videos), but the search engines will start picking up on it right away.

If you have a Facebook page, you should post links on Facebook to each blog post on your website. That will “ping” Google and make them aware of your website so they can start including you in the search results. The Facebook page doesn’t have to be a page for your business. Your personal Facebook page will work just as well.

Here are some other social sites where you can post to get inbound links pointing to your site:

Facebook
Twitter
Pinterest
Google +
Stumbleupon
Reddit

Generally speaking, the more links the better, however don’t get spammy. If you post too many links too quickly Google can “slap” your website with a penalty for spam. You don’t want that.

One new inbound link per day to each new post for four or five day is about right.

Steve

P.S. I use the same free website for my own hot dog business. Here is a link to it: http://FrankandChips.com. Please don’t sign up to the email list as this is for my local customers only. Thanks!

How to sell 1000 hot dogs in 1.5 hours. Photos.

This is from the “better late than never” folder. I received an email a while back from Hot Dog Profits Premium member Mitch Teaske. I replied to him but never posted his letter and pictures here on the ‘ol hot dog cart blog.

I just came across it again this morning and thought you would enjoy it…

*********************

Steve,

Hello I hope things are well for you. I just wanted to drop you a line and let you in on my big event!  Your going to like this.  This is the second year in a row that I have had the privilege to provide hot dogs to the veterans ceremony participants here at the Ft. Vancouver Barracks in Vancouver, WA.  Working alongside a big list of volunteers and organizations including National Parks Service, Lions Club International and the Clark County Historical Society, we were able to have 1000 Hot Dogs donated to us by Foster Farms. Buns were donated to us by Sysco Foods along with all the mustard, ketchup and relish we could ever use for so many dogs.

I started cooking the dogs at 10am and was feeding them out by 11am.  We had a huge assembly line set up so as I pulled cooked dogs out of my EZ built cart my team would bun and wrap them up.  In the span of an hour and a half we had cooked and wrapped all 1000 dogs.  Everyone grubbed and had a good time.  Yes we had leftovers, Haha!  I truly enjoy giving back to the community and this was such a blast.

I just wanted to let you know that my cart is now 3 years old and has seen a lot of events and busy days but yesterday was a true test of what it was capable of.  1K dog in 1.5 hours! WOW!  If anyone has doubts on if your EZ cart can hold up to high demand this should put it to rest.  I am including a pic of my well used cart taking a breath and a photo of our assembly line.  It oughtta make you smile.  Thank you for all that you do.

God Bless the USA

Great job Mitch! Looks like a finely tuned machine you have there, keep up the good work (and sorry it took me so long to post this)!

And yes, God Bless the USA – and all of our veterans and their families for all the sacrifices you have made!!!

Interview With Wanda. From Hot Dog Cart To Restaurant

Wanda is one of my great success stories.

She started out with an E-Z Built Hot Dog Cart selling dogs and soups on the street. Not long after she made the transition to a successful brick and mortar restaurant called the Dixie Kitchen where she sells yummy items such as these…

Mmmm, that’s a good looking burger, fries, and shake!!!

Hear how she went from hot dog cart to full blown restuarant step by step in this interview:
https://hotdogprofits.com/blog/hot-dog-cart-radio-wanda-sells-soups/

Unfortunately, Wanda has found herself needing to sell the Dixie Kitchen due to a back injury…

***************************

Hey Steve, I was hoping you could help me. I have to sell the restaurant. I hurt my back in June and I ain’t healing up as well as I would care to, so I need to sell. Here is a link to my craigslist ad, I was hoping that you could help me promote the “rant” and get it sold!

Thanks if you can. If not, I understand! But the Nacho Queen must retire!
