There was a man who lived by the side of the road and sold hot dogs. He sold very good hot dogs. He put up signs along the highway and advertised in the newspaper telling how good they were. He stood on the side of the road and cried: “Buy a hot dog, mister?” And people bought. He increased his meat and bun orders. He bought a bigger stove to take care of his trade. He finally got his son home from college to help him out.
But then something happened. His son said, “Father, haven’t you been listening to the radio and watching TV? There is a big depression. The foreign situation is terrible. The domestic situation is worse.” Whereupon the father thought, “Well, my son’s been to college, he listens to the radio and watches TV and he ought to know.” So the father cut down on his meat and bun orders, took down his signs and canceled his newspaper ads and no longer bothered to stand out on the highway to sell his hot dogs. And his hot dog sales fell almost overnight. “You’re right, son,” the father said to the boy. “We certainly are in the middle of a great depression.”

Thats an interesting story, but what I find interesting in it is the fact that the man was successful before his son had returned from college….but as soon as his son comes home and tells of doom and dispair, the man stops doing what was working for HIM. So now the depression affects him as well. That is so sad that a lot of people do not follow their dreams and just go for it. Even in times like today, there is a market for what we sell, I’ve seen it myself this past weekend. I’m excited about the future and I am definately going for my dream!
I am getting ever closer to starting my cart. I actually have parts arriving now. I am constantly told that I cannot do this. No one will buy my Hot Dogs These people are too cheap etc… etc… I simply say Watch Me! I already proving that it can be done selling off the only other Slinger in towns cart. He is part time and let me use his cart.
And thy still tell me I cannot do it. lol I work part time right now with no steady hours and work is tough to find here. So I am doing what people who know me have said for years “You belong behind a Hot Dog Cart, You got that personality.
We are in Indiana and have a lot of Fairs and Festivals all spring summer and fall. We have our Local Circus City Days here in Peru with the largest amatuer circus in the world. It is made up of performers under 19, with a week long fair downtown and there are many more in little towns around here. I figure I can make a living during this time then work when I can through the winter. I have talked to lemonade shake up folks that say they make $1500 a day at the fair and every trailer there sells lemonade shake ups, there are a few hot dog vendors but none that will be selling my hot dogs. They are unique and so far I am the only one in the state that is going to be selling them. This should be huge at the Hot Dog Festival in Frankfort IN!
I know that some of the people that are telling me I cannot do this will be the first ones in line to borrow money when I do it! My answer to them will be “no I cannot make money doing this so I cannot loan money doing this”
Thousands of folks who read this newsletter who know for a fact that you can make money doing this. Because they do.
