New Video – Mike’s Hot Dog Cart

Frankly speaking, business is booming at sidewalk vendor’s hot dog cart.

Mike Sullivan had just been laid off from his job as a DHL deliveryman after some 15 years.  The process-serving company he’d set up after his layoff was not making ends meet. The 55-year-old wasn’t sure what would, until he sat down to watch a movie.

In the background of one scene he saw a man selling Continue reading “New Video – Mike’s Hot Dog Cart”

Got A Web Site? – Let’s See It!

I have been getting a lot of emails recently from readers of Hot Dog Cart News asking me to check out their web sites. I really enjoy seeing how you folks are promoting your hot dog cart businesses online, which gives me an idea…

If you have a hot dog vending business, and you have a web site to promote it, how about sharing it here on HDCN.  Don’t worry if it’s not super professional. The best ones are often very simple.

I think it will be fun to check out everyone’s sites, and to see all the different designs and marketing approaches as well as being able to learn from each other. But there’s a bonus – if you share your site here you’ll get some valuable advertising for free. This site gets 50,000 page views per month, so you don’t want to miss this opportunity!

Please note – this is only for hot dog cart operators, not cart manufacturers or industry suppliers. Manufacturers can contact me for advertising packages and rates.

Don’t be shy, let’s see what you’ve got. Leave your web address in the comments box below.

WEIRD Hot Dogs… Woah!

HDCN reader Andrew Sawyer tipped me off to these hot dog creations.  There are some creative folks out there!  Some of these are not hot dog cart – friendly, but they’re all worthy of home cooking for the family.  Except for the last one – yuck!

Here we go…

Spaghetti Dogs – Looks like it was made in the Play-Doh Fun Factory press.  The creation of this meal is actually not very labor intensive: Simply puncture slices of raw hot dog with uncooked spaghetti noodles and boil. Continue reading “WEIRD Hot Dogs… Woah!”

Hot Dog Cart Radio – Interview with Rocky Marlow of “Rocky’s Wiener Wagon” in Hopkins, Minnesota

Thanks to everyone who participated in the contest last week. Man, did those comments come in fast! I was watching on my iphone from a restaurant near the beach.

So I’m officially back from vacation.  You know life is good when you can’t wait to get back to work.

I recently spoke with Rocky Marlow about his hot dog cart operation in a suburb of Minneapolis.

Rocky is another unfortunate victim of the recent economic weirdness and found himself without a job. Instead of sitting around feeling sorry for himself, he decided to take charge of his situation and pursue a long time dream.

With the support of his family, “Rocky’s Wiener Wagon” was born.

A great location in downtown Hopkins was secured and Rocky was on his way. He says he’s enjoying a lot of success and having a wonderful time as well.

I always say, when one door closes another one opens and Rocky’s new business is proof.

Enjoy the show!

Hot Dogs with Honey and Quail Eggs?!!!

Hot dogs. The all-American food, right?

Well, just like nearly every other aspect of our culture, what you put on a hot dog reflects where you come from.

Luis Echeverry came to the U.S. from Colombia in South America, spending his teen years in New York. He moved here to work for Windstream. On the side he runs a hot dog cart at Plaza Fiesta, the Latino-themed mall next Continue reading “Hot Dogs with Honey and Quail Eggs?!!!”
