Interesting!!!! Sure would be a great back up power source. Any ideas on costs & what maximum output would be from the solar panels that could be used?
Wow, living in sunny Florida there might be some seriously nice benifits to this solar power thing , especialy if you can find a way to store some of that energy for after the sun goes down. And how cool is the stand in enclosed cart for keeping you out of the weather, who makes those?
well Steve someone beet me too. my brother and I were just starting on this very same thing.I’m a former californian so there about 15 years a head of the rest of the nation in these areas.Thats really cool,I want to do this we all should, save the green for the relish.
The best thing about it is the positive, public relations it generates. In allows the public officials to put a positive spin on having allowed a Hot Dog Cart in your town. Personally, I use a 2000w, quite and portable Honda generator. They are worth every cent and one the best investments you’ll make. Solar Panels….sure….but mostly for the local news or the City planning department!
Sounds great! Would like more info..I have some electrical engineering friends…I’m going to seriously look into it…

GENIUS!!!
Steve you gotta interview dis guy! Start a Green revolution. There might even be some Obama Money for the project. Our business is too Small to Fail!!!!
wow now that is truly the way to go and you bet ya i well be adding that to my cart when i build it. that way i can go any where and run. with out cords for some-buddy to trip on.
When I was a kid I had a solar powered hotdog cooker. The only problem was production – it took about 15 minutes per dog! Ha..ah.. Now, let’s see if I expanded the cooker to about 20’X20′ – yes, it could be done with some Obama money! ;-0)
See if he’ll sell plans? I would be interested in starting up a company to build these carts. Would work great anywhere if solar energy could be stored. This could be added.
I had my cart retro fitted to run off battery and can plug it in at night to recharge it. I have a great automotive guy. He did a bunch of retrofits to my big dog cart. You need to add to your book on what to do when you get a fire off grill. This happened to me at the christmas parade , what a mess . Thank GOD I had and exstinguisher. Then I was told to always have baking soda on hand to pur out fires. Now my hats smell like brats. Never put brats on grill pre cook them or you’ll have a gigantic grease fire. My procedure is being added to my training of idiot employees who close the grill with onions burning and starting fire.
I not only have a 12 volt solar panel but I have a solar oven as well. Makes great dogs guys and warm buns too…..I am in Alabama, now that the cold snap is over south Alabama is great for winter business.
You guys might not believe this but that’s my dad! No, I’m serious, he was on the news. I helped him build the cart, well I was there anyway. If you have any questions, just E-Mail me and I’ll ask him.
I just installed solar on my sister’s Snappy Dogs hot dog stand this week! She’s running a sink pump, radio, and fan, and on sunny days I may let her run a tiny fridge to keep her whoopie pies cool.
I design and sell solar systems at the AltE Store http://www.altestore.com/store/. If anyone wants a system designed for their stand, let me know!
