Hi Steve,
I’m trying to find a hot pink paint to paint my E-Z Built hot dog cart with and I cant find it anywhere. Home Depot, Sears and Lowes all said they can not make that color of pink. I even tried a local paint shop and they said it’s too hard of a color to make.
But I see it all over the place. Maybe your readers know of a source?
Thanks, Dawn V.

I did some checking around and Dawn is right. Hot pink paint is really hard to find in an exterior enamel. I’m stumped.
I sure hope someone can find a source for this because I would LOVE to see the results!
Any ideas, slingers? Leave ’em in the comments…

Pink is my favorite color! As a desperate alternative, you could cover it with pink duct tape? Not? sorry, what I have in pink is my hat, shirts and signs. Nothing that needed paint.
Did you try Sherwin Williams? I love this color…what an awesome idea! My nails and toes are this color! Good luck!
Look for automotive paint manufacturers: like here
It is an organic color, it fades badly in the sunlight. That is why you cant find it in exterior paint. Use spray paint, you should be able to find it in that color at the hobby shop. Hope this helps!
One other caution. Pink is a color that is usually used for icecream or cotton candy vendors. People are gonna think “sugar” instead of “Hotdogs” Just sayin’! God bless!
Stop by a local Powder Coating Shop. They use all kinds of offbeat colors including “PINK”. Also this would be the most durable coating you could buy! (this is not a DIY product)
Find a sample color that you like…take it to Home Depot and have them color match it. I worked in the HD paint department and even matched a color from a bed spread that a lady brought in..have them mix a quart first to sample and have them save the color formula for you. Should be no problem.
Hey Dawn,
Try this website i think you might find what your looking for hon..

and just click on pink they have a lot to choose from…hope it helps you out..good luck
how about a pink wrap, from the local sign shop
Hey, I know the answer to this one from a former life. Most automotive paint stores should be able to help you. Wild colors are real popular amongst custom car enthusiasts. My son used to have a custom motorcycle painting business and he has purchased all kinds of crazy colors from his local supplier. Check your phone book for automotive paint suppliers and give them a call. Another great thing about automotive paint is you can also purchase a paint hardner that is compatible with your paint. It’s a little more expensive with the hardener but I think it makes for a more durable finish. My cart is going into it’s 3rd season and my paint looks as good today as it did the day I built it. Hot pink ought to get peoples attention and that’s the idea. My cart is red & yellow (guess I’m a purist) but I hear comments all the time about how nice my cart looks, especially compared to the cold
sterile look of the stainless steel carts. Good luck with your new venture.
Hot pink in PMS colors is 226. The Pink Ribbon pink is I think 237 CVC.
Talk to a sign shop or someone similar that mixes their own paints, auto paint idea above is good start.
Robin,
Holding a slice of bread in your mouth while chopping onions, now pink duct tape…
You are full of strange and wonderful information!
😉
Sherry,
So you match your nail color to your cart when you’re out slingin’?
Good points Wanda,
It would be interesting to see the results of a formal test on the marketing aspect of pink as regards customer expectation.
Chuck, Mike , and Bob-
Good tips, thanks!
A wrap is a great option Ron. Good thinking!
Fat Daddy,

I love reading this blog! I always learn something I didn’t know. Thank you all for the collective education on paint…and wraps… I can imagine all sorts of new possibilities!
Wow! Sure is pink!
Glad I have my sunglasses on !
(auto body shop should be able to mix or direct you to someone who can).
Thanks Dogs on the Run! Good luck to you too.
I love reading the comments. I have the best readers in the “dogosphere”!
You’re right Frank. That is PINK, lol!
Brian, what are PMS colors. (I’m afraid to ask…)
Take a sample of whatever “pink” you have to Wal Mart…they have a computer that will print out the formula that is dead on…I’m assuming you want it Hot Dog Pink?????????good luck..
Judy,
I use Walmart paint on all the carts I build. It’s good paint. The color I use is called “Taxi Cab”. I didn’t know they had paint matching ability, thanks for the heads up!
PMS are the official names for paint colors. Every color on every sports team is noted by their PMS number.
Also, there is a new thing out called vehicle wrapping. Instead of paint they wrap your vehicle in a decal and you can have any picture or color you want. It is inexpensive AND you can change it.
1shot.com
This is lettering enamel used for sign painting. Very good. Not cheap.
Sherwin Williams web site, you want paint number SW6851 called Hibiscus or even better, SW6840 Exuberant Pink. You can get these at most paint shops like Lowes or Ace Hardware.
Google “SW6851 Hibiscus” or “SW6840 Exuberant Pink” and Sherwin Williams will be at the top and when you click it it will show you the color.
Where is “Vehicle Wrapping” done? A Sign Shop?
Mark
I can’t believe you couldn’t find it at home depot. just so happens that I am building a concession trailer now and all the trim will be done in pink but what I had to do was purchase the outdoor paint and have the color added and what I used was the ‘Disney colors’ called “pretty as a princess”. what I do know is you have to do it in the gallon buckets not the 5 gallon if they do not have it in their Disney paint section email me and i’ll give you the color code perhaps they can find it in another home depot.
Steve, did you try the bread thing ???
I’ll pass on the tape too!!
You could use gloss latex & spray on clear coat to make it shine.
1st mate Jim.
Thanks for the codes Wesley!
Mark,
Yes, sign shops do vehicle wraps. It’s a giant vinyl decal done on a computer. Pretty amazing. Here is an E-Z Built Hot Dog Cart done in a wrap.
Hot Curly Wiener
Big E. Pretty as a princess. LMAO! 😉
Thanks for piling on, Jim. Aaaargh!
OK, everybody, do me a favor,
TRY THE BREAD THING AND SEE IF I’M NOT RIGHT!:)
Steve, Those pics of my signs I sent you? The pink on top of the menu board IS duct tape.
Yes I know but it’s those Disney colors and the hot pink….lol
