Bees, Wasps, and Flies – Oh My!

MuscaDomesticaWhat’s another name for hot dog slingin’ weather? Bug weather.

Although we don’t usually see a big bee and wasp problem until fall, the flies come out all season long.

Your dogs and buns are usually covered with lids or bags, but what about your
condiments?

Nothing turns off a customer faster than seeing a fly meandering across the chopped onions.

Nasty…

And how about bees and wasps? Let’s face it, the only thing worse than getting stung on the job is when a customer gets stung!

What do you do about flying insects? Let’s share some tips on how to control them or better yet, get rid of them altogether.

Benny’s Hot Dogs In Tuscaloosa Is Literally A Dream Come True.

bennyBenny Miller, owner of Benny’s Hotdogs, prepares a customer’s lunch at his portable hot dog vending cart called The Hummer on May 1. Miller was selling hot dogs, Polish sausage and nachos from his cart at the Tuscaloosa Auto Auctions on Skyland Boulevard in Cottondale. He plans to start selling food from his cart in the downtown Tuscaloosa area this summer.

Many people dream of having their own business. Ben Miller of Northport took it a step further. His idea for a business came to him in a dream.

Onion Choppers: Which one is best?

Chopping Onions for a hot dog cart

Unless you are Chuck Norris, cutting onions with a knife will leave you bawling like a toddler.  Don’t do it.

This is the dicer I use and love.

It’s inexpensive and makes quick work of an otherwise tearful task.  Get one here.

hot dog cart onion chopperJust cut the onion in half, place it on the grate and close the lid. Open it up and chop another one.

When you have enough simply pop out the green thingy (yes that’s the technical term for it) and dump your perfectly diced onions into a baggie or tupperware.

Clean up is easy with the included comb thingamabobber (sorry for getting all technical again).

Just comb out the leftovers from the white upper presser thing (yeah, I know, I know…) and wash with soap and water.

This thing rocks.

What do you use? Tell us in the comments!
