Did you even break a Dog Gone Sweat? You are the Man Dog!
Actually I did. It was pretty humid out there!
Steve looks great!!!! How do you go about pricing something like this. I did a gig last weekend for 75 people and charged $400.00 for Hot Dogs and Burgers. No drinks just reg. toppings and cheese for the Burgers. I think i should of charged more not sure what you would use as a gauge it by say $7.00 per/person????
Thanks Steve
Joe Laurie
That sounds reasonable. A high quality burger brings that much in a restaurant. When you figure in your time and gas you really need to charge a price that’s fair to you as we’ll as the customer.
Joe, thats a very reasonable price, thats what I’ve done some events for per person. Good luck and much continued success!
LOVE IT! I wish I had lines like that AND could move that FAST!!!! I love your set up with the wing counters! I might consider that in the future.
The wings really let us fly!
I have a gig this Sunday at the local VFW for our vets. God bless them. I charged them 380$. Supplies cost me 140$, rest is for the effort. Did I price myself to low? I am making 48$ per hour.
Making almost $50 an hour while being of service to those who served us so selflessly – that’s called doing well by doing good. God bless our servicemen and women, and God bless you too Ed.
I did a gig today that I do every year at the local First Baptist Church Bible Day Care School. Kinda small, only 50 meals, but I have the best time with the kids. Ages from 1 year to about 4 year olds. The kids are just plain great… They get so excited that the “Hot Dog Guy” is coming, customers for life, yes. Normally this gig takes me about a couple of hours to do and today was just that normal, weather was great 70+, no wind, not a cloud in the sky. $150.00 does not sound like a lot for some people but to tell the truth I would do this event for free.. Third year for this event and I will return next year.. Great time…
Duggs Doggs
Good!! Good!!
It’s not all about the money is it Michael? There’s a lot of satisfaction in serving folks, young and old alike.
Good!! Good!!
your mom rulz!!! Way to keep the flow moving! I broke 1000.00 finally at a Halloween event! I am doing Aflac now, but Hot Dogging is still way more fun!
Congrats on breaking one G!
Yes, my mom rules indeed. I’ll tell her you said so. When my dad was alive he loved to chat up the customers while we worked. đ
Thanks Brian!
Hey Steve, I know this is probably a silly question….but what is that music that is playing in the video? Its actually kind of catchy!
It’s called “Batty McFadden” (for real). After you hear it 64 times in a row you go batty.
Hows things in SIU/Carbondale?
Steve,
If I could move that fast, I’d go back to laying brick. I’d make $5000 every day. Ha ha!
As a matter of fact if I could move that fast slinging dogs and the people would line up that fast I could sell them for $1. Ha ha again!
That was really cute. It reminded me of the old Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton shows.
Thanks Boo.
By the way – you dropped your wallet đ
Boy you sure served a lot of people in 2 minutes and 37 seconds. You da man! And still just as cute as ever.
Back at ‘ya Renee (not “da man” part of course). You need to get back in here!
Hi Steve, the last couple of videos you’ve had on the site were all blurred up to where I couldn’t see anything. Nobody else seemed to have any trouble so I believe it’s a fault on my end. Had a hell of a time downloading my gravatar pic but finally got it done, I guess I’m still a little technically challenged, will start on lesson 4-5 very soon. I also was taken with your wing counters-so much that I put them on my little yellow weenie-wagon. very best to you and all the doggers here. Randy/JODOGS
I hope you get your video issues sorted out soon. This was a fun video to watch. My kids keep playing it over and over – that song is stuck in my head!
Glad you are liking your NewOpsGroup.com lessons. Your gravatar looks great. Nice viking hat!
Hey hermano, love the extended counters on both sides, gives you lots of space without toting extra tables…love it! Its so cool to see you in action, the teacher can still practice what he preaches! Anyway, this year has been tremendous for Stevie’s Red Hot Wienies and I’m looking forward to what this year has in store for me!
Hola bro! Glad you had a good season. I hope this year is even better!
Hi Steve, looking great keep up the good work!!!
Thanks Lenzie!
Thanks for the kind words
Hi Steve, Great video !!! I love your attitude about slinging them dogs, money isn’t everything.
Bruce of “Bruce’s Hot Dog Cartel “.
ps. Get busy making that Chili, winter will be over soon.
I will! Thanks Bruce!
I like the cart. Iâve been missing mine. In 2010 I started with, shall I say, a one umbrella cart. In 2011 I moved to a two umbrella cart and increased my business by 18%. This year I moved into a concession trailer for the convenience of cleanup, loading and unloading, refrigeration and AC. It took most of the summer for people (my regular customers) to realize it was me.
At my age, the conveniences are great but the âon the streetâ interaction is what sells.
Your second cart is a perennial favorite here at HotDopProfits.com.
Here’s a link to pictures of Jack’s Hot Dog Cart for those who want to check it out.
Aye matey !! Ye be dancin around like a peg leg pirate in a dance contest !!
Wish I could line em up that fast !! Arrrggggg !!
1St Mate Jim…
Would have been a good time for a costume !!! Har har harrrr !!
Aye, Aye!
Aye!
Wow! You never skipped a beat! đ
Your mom was great too! đ
Thanks Julia!
Hmm … not all that sure how much help Mom was, you served 30 people in that few minutes, Mom only served 21 people.
If I ever had that many people lined up to clean their glasses, it would take me most of the day (whew, I’m tired just thinking about THAT).
Actually, Steve, as has already been said, it was GREAT watching both of you working and interacting with those people, and that must have been SOME hot dog you were serving, many of those people were repeat customers just within the video.
WAY to GO Teach (and YOU TOO Mom)
Skip (still humming that tune after watching the video several times)
That’s 21 more people than I could have served in the same time period by myself. I was glad to have her helping me. We ended up serving 130 hot dogs in about 45 minutes.
I enjoyed the video and really got some good ideas for my stainless steel cart as well, thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome Terry! Send me some pics of your cart. I love seeing other slinger’s rigs!
Great job. You are a good teacher. And a great mentor
Thanks Jim!
I just read something I wanted to share with the faint of heart newcomers who wonder if Steve’s plan is for real, (I was there a few years ago). They expect to sell 18,969,922 hot dogs at the major league ballparks this year, And they will sell for a lot more per dog than you will charge and make a good profit.
Everyone loves a good hot dog! Thanks Papa.
Mr. Steve,
You had it going and it seems like you did a Fantastic Job!!! Way to go!!! Jim
Thanks Jim!
No Offense Steve, I think your Mom was moving faster than you. Awesome.
LOL. You may be right Larry!
Prepaid gigs and catering are frickin awesome!!!
It’s so much fun slinging away not having to tender cash, swiping credit cards, or fumbling around for drinks and chips.
Yep.
Hey Steve,
Love the setup! Iâm trying to figure out an easy way to set up my Square register and those extended counters look just the solution.
One question, what are you keeping in the chafing dish on the back table?
Thanks!
Darren
Circus City Hot Dogs
I’m steaming buns.
That was my thought. We had our âsoft openingâ recently at an event and struggled with steaming the buns. The struggle was that we were serving three different dogs, one was a spicy dog so couldnât commingle them with the others, and keeping them going and steaming buns we ran out of room. We were thinking of a chafing dish just for buns. Great to see it at work here! Another question, we serve the same Vienna Beef buns for our authentic Chicago style, what is the other âboxedâ buns youâre serving?
Thanks!
Darren
They are “Mary Ann” buns by Rosen. Authentic for Chicago dogs.
Thanks for the setup ideas, Steve. The county of San Diego requires you to serve all of your food off of the cart. Those extended “tables” on each side at the rear are a great idea to get around the limited serving space of the cart. Thanks, man!
I love those extensions. You will too!
