Tim Hale’s Naked Franks – “We Sweat Our Buns Off For You!”
Tim Hale, owner of Naked Franks is opening for business on Monday in front of the Albertson’s Grocery in LaGrande, Oregon.
Dig his awesome trailer in the pics below…
If any HDCN readers are in the area, you gotta stop by and take the Naked Franks challenge. It’s called “The Gutter Dog”.
Be afraid. Very afraid…
When this two foot long bad boy is topped with sauce, cheese, onions, and bacon it weighs almost three pounds. It’s so big that they have to serve it in a two foot long vinyl house gutter. Now that’s creative!
Tim also donates all pop can deposits to the Make A Wish Foundation. Very nice.
Thanks for the shirt and bumper sticker Tim. I’m sure going to look spiffy in church on Mother’s Day!
-Steve

Steve looking great!
Tim, I love your slogan!!!
Your graphics are awesome too!
Congrats.
It makes me wish I lived in Oregon. I’d be by for a dog (maybe not the gutter dog) and a shirt.
Best of luck. I’ll bet you will do great.
Nice Trailer. should give us a glimpse of the inside. I love the logo and the slogan to go with it. very creative. would also like to see the pic of the gutter dog. Congrats and best of luck!!
Sounds great. Curious as to how you go about getting extra large dogs. Butcher shop or ???
I plan to open in July, but would love to have a special challenge sized dog.
But I couldn’t buy bulk cause I’d just be starting. Maybe a few dozen to see how it goes over and if it’s profitable.
Thought I’d never see the day….Steve in a white T-shirt….

Hey Tim, Love the “truck” cart! Cool, send Pic. of the inside would love to see the set up! The T-shirt is really awesome! Good luck to you!
This is a question to all or anyone doing the “ball park” concessions. Do you put the condiments on or let them do their own? There will be 2 of us working this but not sure which way to do this for the best speed. Big events I understand they do it and on a regular day they can or sometimes I “Pamper them” and do it for them. This will be a “wave of folks” not sure the best way to do this. Any info or suggestions? We also have the packaged condiments, do these work better? ( I don’t like these but they work for the 2 go orders)
Thanks, we’re off to a great start this spring here in Alaska, sunshine and warm now 58-62 perfect for softball!!!!!!!!!!!
Tim and Sharon,
WeBeDogs!
I have a feeling you are going to get lots of
t-shirts from your promotion. Good idea.
You should be getting one from us eventually.
I hope Naked Franks gets us some more photos of their set-up. I will be watching,
I anwser to WeBeDogs baseball question. When I do baseball games I get two pump jars of mustard and ketchup. One one each side of the table and I put two large containers of onions and sweet relish out, also one on each side.
This spreads people out enough to get the job done. If you have two tables even better.
Also, where in Alaska do you live? I was born and raised in Fairbanks. Cold stuff there!
Have a Lucky Dawg day.
Well my wife and i received our Carts Of Cash,What an amazing book so far.We are excited but a little shaky with starting our own business. We kind of stepped out with no regrets of owning our own Big Rig,Selling it and purchasing our very own cart,it’s in the making now and should be shipping out in a week or so and we got our first location today, and don’t even have the cart yet.We look forward to chatting with ya’ll in the future.Want to thank Steve personally for going out of your way to satisfy your customers.Thanks.How can i find a website or something that tells you all the names that are taking?I have a name”Dawgs Gone wild”do i just use it or hows that work..Thanks!
Lucky Dawg, Thx for the reply, can do that and sounds perfect! Have 2 tables and space to stretch it out for traffic flow! Love that! We are in Anchorage, and the cart is located on Dimond Ave @ Value Village and Salvation Army, everyone in town knows this spot. Let the kids bid for downtown, pricey spots! BIG bucks for that !!!!!!!!!! So far it is awesome and the ballpark just came up this week with 3 requests from the guys that play. 4 fields 8 teams (round robbin) and fans! Should be interesting. Thank you! Love Reno, have friends there and will be there in the late fall. Vegas this winter!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7 mo. of snow toooo much for these old folks this year!
Lucky Dawg day back to you
Thanks, Sharon/WeBeDogs
Greets… great looking stuff…
As an answer for Scott, re: trade name:
Most places require you to register a “fictitious name”, i.e. any business name that is not your actual name. Check with your local city hall- you may have to do a records search to see if anyone is using the name, and if not, you then register it, usually for a modest fee ($5, but some places can be a lot more). Some places that’s it. Other places, you may then be “in the system” and required to get a sales tax #/resale certificate from the state (or show you have it, which you need to buy wholesale and open a business bank account any way), along with possibly other permits and certificates. Your city hall and chamber of commerce should be your starting points. Of course it goes without saying that you’ll need the Health Dept. inspections and certifications… open up without them and you’re asking for a lightning strike…
Continuing with info on permits/certifications:
Even if you get all the correct business certs and health permits, you may still need to get a vendors license for a particular venue, i.e. many places require “street vendor” license/permit- which could be the deal killer, if your town has an arbitrary number of them, and there are no more (i.e. New York City- about the only way to legally get a street vendor permit is for a veteran. Most other street permits are like diamond heirlooms, held onto for decades…). Some venues may actually require fees from you if you wish to set up in front of them (again, places like NYC museums/parks sometimes auction locations, which go for OUTRAGEOUS sums, sometimes to frauds who have no chance of paying for them…some guy recently bid over $600,000 for a spot in front of one NYC museum for a HOT DOG CART! And then a bunch of veterans set up around him for free, and he vanished, without making any payments).
Anyway, the point is make money, have fun, but don’t get ground in the wheels of “the system”! As Steve points out in his book and this site, there’s plenty to go around… 😉
Tim, I lived in Anchorage four years so I know the area where you are talking about. I graduated West High in Anchorage.
Hope to see you in Reno some day.
Thanks
Just wanted to say hi to Tim and Sharon, I met them a couple days ago and WOW did I learn some great stuff!!! Like how NOT to set myself on fire-good stuff Sharon, thanks! Although now I have stress about my homemade EZ wood cart bursting into flames …maybe I should buy smore stuff just in case….starting my cart next week in Ninilchik ALASKA, also fish tacos and chowder….
Thanks so much,
Caroline
By the way, has anyone had that happen??? Cart burn down??? No kidding, Tim said his stainless steel cart around the steamer hits 300 degrees….oh geez is all I can think, I went and put a 60,000 BTU stove in my wood cart…why oh why did I decide that my first ever building project would include FIRE!!! Please someone tell me it will all be okay!!!
Shouldve named it Ketch n Fire instead of Ketch n Relish….
Caroline
Caroline,
No worries, your E-Z Built won’t catch fire, LOL!
The burners are contained in a metal firebox with venting that cools everything perfectly. Nothing gets anywhere near 300 degrees on an E-Z Built!
There are hundreds of E-Z Built Hot Dog carts on the streets with no problems, so you can rest easy.
The only thing on fire will be the growth rate of your business. 😉
-Steve
Great T-Shirt. Need one
Hey Caroline,
God, that sounds so funny to hear you tell that story! True as it is, your firebox will be just fine, ours is! With the wind and cold keeping these burners lit is a challenges. Be glad you weren’t up last week! OMG! A gust of wind caught our cover and blew it across the ball field!!!!!!!! 2 stooges for sure!!!!!!!!! Try to chase a 4 legged kite! We have learned lessons we didn’t need to know at this point! Toooo old for that, but fun! 🙂 Have had a really good week. Our location is proving to be good and ready for this wind to stop! Oh I have 3 more holes in my new coat!!!!!!!!!! No feathers though! Don’t wear fleece or microfiber!
Steve, is there magic to working in the wind? We are OK with snow, rain, and deal with the cold but the wind is killing us. It can be nice and about an hour in the wind kicks up and the burners go out. Any suggestions besides close. Not a good options some days.
Caroline, good luck and have fun, keep us posted and we’ll stop by in a few weeks!
Thanks,
Webedogs, Tim and Sharon
Hey!!!
Where are you guys?? Not at Albertsons anymore.
I am adicted but can’t find you. Please contact me at above email. Miss you!!
Tim Jackson:
Funny that you mentioned how the wind took your canopy for a ride. The wind has been brutal here in Denver, Colorado, this year. Although my umbrella is secured well onto the mount at the top of my hot dog cart, the wind really does some damage. Often, I see the sides of the umbrella bending and pulling up and I’ve already repaired it a few times with fishing line, not sure what would be stronger or easier to make sewing repairs to the umbrella. While I was trying to take down my umbrella during the Memorial Day weekend, having just loosened the crank near the top of the mount, the wind took it straight out of my hand and I ended up chasing it across the full length of the city park where I was set up. I never did catch it, however. I watched as it crashed into some poor elderly folks as they were about to sit on the grass. Thankfully, the older woman grabbed the umbrella and closed it fully, and held onto it until I could walk the distance to her location for it. Damn that strong wind! I cannot even upright my canopy, I’ve only used it once this season because of the winds.
Oh well…the risks and adventures of outdoor vending, I suppose. C’est la vie.
