At Hot Dog Profits our motto is, “Don’t sell a hot dog. Sell an experience!” Spiral cutting your hot dogs is a great way to just that.
It separates you from your competition as well a giving your condiments a whole lot more real estate to nestle into. If you want to supercharge the flavor of your signature dogs, spiral cut hot dogs will help a lot.
Another advantage to spiral cutting hot dogs is that i makes your hot dog about one third longer. This is great for presentation and allows you to justify a higher price point for your tasty tubesteaks.
Here is a video from Chow.com that shows you how it’s done…
Do you spiral cut your dogs? Is it too labor intensive? Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Cool, gonna put this on my mwnu
They make a unit you can purchase cheaply on the net. I think it’s called spiral dog. Just google it. I plan on using them when I get opened. Might even go ahead & order a few today.
Works great for skinless factory dogs on a grill !!
However it would ruin a natural casing steamed dog matey !!
I’ll stick with my steamers. Been that way fer 30 years matey !!
Must be doin something right !!
Arrrrr !!
1St Mate Jim.
Keep on keepin’ on matey.
KOOL!
Works great on a grill.
Has anyone tried it in a steamer or as a “Dirty Water” dog ???
Imaginations can go wild with this one, LOL.
Try it and tell us. I haven’t done these yet myself.
How will these come out on a boiled or steamed dog?
Should work fine as long as they are skinless. Hold times would probably be reduced.
That looks cool! Is it feasible for boiled dogs?
I might try a few on the kids when the beach opens!
It won’t work on natural casing dogs but skinless should be fine, even in water.
I am going to try it tonight. Great tip and the tool is inexpensive too!
Let me know what you think.
Hi Steve I tried one of those cutters and found it’s cute for kids parties but on the street when it gets busy it slows me down to much. I bought a pair of cutters from Wells on the net.
Good tip. Thanks Joe!
Hi Steve, What a wicked idea! I would just do a few ahead when not busy with customers. They really do look delicious. Would they work on sausages?
How long do u think they would hold in the steamer after being spiraled? In fact, how long are dogs good in steamer before they lose their flavor?
Thank you. You are the best!

Hi Barb, this only works well on skinless dogs and sausages. It does reduce hold time in water somewhat. Better experiment with your particular brand to find out how they will stand up to the spiral treatment.
