Our dog slingin’ brother to the north, Rex Johnson of Canada, owns and operates Hot Dog Heroes.
He recently got mentioned in a national publication! Here is the email he sent me…
Hey Steve!
I just ordered your business course. Really looking forward to getting busy with the program. Although I’m up and running, I am constantly looking for new ways to improve the service.
Recently, a few articles were circulated in our local newspaper and a couple of blogs. I’m guessing that this may have started a bit of a snowball effect as we were called by Macleans, Canada’s national magazine ( similiar to LIFE or PEOPLE magazine), for an interview regarding the cart.
They were doing a story on the gourmet mobile truck scene across the nation and heard about our business. We were honoured to be the only hot dog cart in Canada to be mentioned in this article and Hot Dog Heroes is now becoming very well known for our unique product line.
Here’s the link to the story. Click here for the Macleans story on Rex.
I have also attached a picture that was taken by David Hobson, a professional photographer and graduate from the same business entrepreneur course that I attended. This picture is going to be used for an article that we’ll be submitting to some local newspapers and smaller community publications.
Keep up the good work Steve!

Way to go Rex – great publicity! Thanks for representing the hot dogger with style!

Rex,
The publicity is phenomenal! Congratulations and may it continue to grow.
It’s also great you are giving people a variety that fits the needs of many.
Great article! Way to go Rex. It would be awesome to be covered in a national magazine article. The article mentioned “The Great Food Truck Race” on the Food Network. Fat Daddy’s Dogs and my E-Z Built Cart were contestants in that race. I didn’t win but it was cool just being in it and having people come up to me on the street and say “Hey, I voted for you in the food truck race”!
I also recently met a guy on the cart, that owns a restaurant and wants me to help him work out the details of a food concept and possibly partner with him on his new venture. Hot doggin’ can really open some doors and if nothing else…it sure is interesting some times. Thanks Steve and way to go Rex! Rock on Dudes!
Free advertising is the best. Obviously, the cost is right, but it is more effective when it is unbiased.
That’s fantastic!
Awesome!, Keep up the good work,I’ve been using Steve’s Course from the start! I attribute my success directly to the plan. Seems like you got the right start, Steve’s book will put the icing on the roll……
Good Job Rex, Keep slinging those Dogs. Love the super hero Guy.
WTG!!!! Great publicity for our industry! You have a great setup! Also good job on being a student of anything that can help your business! You made the right move purchasing Steves program, it is the right path from any direction!!
looks like it’ll soon be Hot Dog Super Heros!
Good Luck
That’s cool!
Nice, very nice. That is awesome! keep ’em slingin’.
Thanks for all the awesome comments people!
When the magazine called, it kind of freaked me out and I wasn’t really expecting to be mentioned. When we discovered the story in the convenience store, people must have thought we were crazy the way we were acting…lol!
I am now looking at introducing a few more exotic sausages which may or may not include camel, gator and kangaroo smokies. We are already working with a supplier to provide us with salmon dogs and a breaded lobster/potato blend. (I know…sounds weird 😛 ).
Looking forward to putting the course into action!
Until then, I’ll continue slinging dogs and being unique!
Hey Folks!
Fall is getting very cool and running the carts is getting very challenging.
Looks like we may be moving up to an indoor gourmet truck to do our dogs, smokies, kebabs and burgers!
I’ll send pics and an update when we are ready.
Keep Doggin!
