I got an email from Kim who reminded me of a subject we haven’t covered in a while. If you are new here at HDCN you’ll get a kick out of it…
Hi Steve,
I’m in receipt of your book, and I’m almost finished reading it (and I’ll read it again and again if I need to).
I thank you for the world of information on the hot dog cart business. You are so encouraging for those who get cold feet.. like me. When I have “skeptical” moments, I just delve into your book or read archive news emails.. and I’m back on course.
I’m getting my ducks in a row. I’ll be ordering my cart in the early Spring. I want to be up and selling by April 1st.
I also wanted to bring something to your attention. You might want to include a segment of this in your news email. Hot dog carts don’t just have to be “on land”.
I used to work with a woman who had a vending business with her husband… on their boat. Yes, they used to take their boat out on the lake (or river) here in CT and sell hot dogs (and probably burgers too) to other boaters.
They’d just pull up to the side of boats and take their orders. So, for all those hot dog cart vendors who are avid boaters.. why not make some money on the water ??
Again, thank you. I truly look forward to and enjoy your informative, encouraging emails.
Take care !!
Kim

A long time ago I wrote a couple of articles on aquatic dog slingin’. You can read them here:
If any of you out there in reader land are doing the hot dog boat thing, email me some pictures. I’d love to share them here at HDCN.
You can learn how to make all the equipment necessary to outfit your own hot dog boat including steam tables, water tanks, pumps, plumbing, and everything else – for pennies on the dollar here.
Thanks for the kind words Kim, and good luck with your Hot Dog Biz!

wow Kim I must way that is a great way of making money, I just love that idea, taking to the water is not some thing we all think about, you really have the angles coved dont you
Tony
Great idea!!!!! Always hungry on the water!!!!
Hi Tony. Actually it’s Steve who has all the angles covered. I’m new to HDCN and didn’t realize there were boat vending articles in the archives. I’m fascinated with the whole idea of selling hot dogs on the water, and I’m sure they have a blast doing that !!
Kim,
Good luck with the new biz when you start. I have seen the water thing down in St. Petersburg, Fla. when I lived there. Some build up a pontoon boat, others just load their cart on a pontoon boat deck. Most anchor at an island where the boaters go to park, others keep moving. They always seemed busy. Good idea.
Tim
I’m buying a pontoon TODAY! What a great idea! I guess on the other side of the coin you could have a hot dog cart on skiis for those hungry skiiers and snowboarders. How funny would that look on the lift?
Boating, swimming – love the idea!
Good luck with your Water Dogs!
Sorry guy’s, I am a Land kind of guy don’t mind the water but would rather be by the shore somewhere. Nice idea sounds like fun. Guess you wouldn’t have the health dept sneaking up on you! lol.
Rick,
The HD sneaks up on you from below with scuba gear… 😉

Well Steve, you are probably right about the scuba gear. They get to go diving on our dime in the name of work…. LOL There are some hot dog carts on the water in the Colorado River, I heard. Very successful, too!!
Who are the people in Connecticut doing the HotDog Boat thing ???
Jim at Weiners on Water.
Hey Steve the links for Hot Dog Boat 1 and 2 are gone. Any archive items for selling dogs from my boat?
Hey Doc, the links are fixed now. Thanks for the heads up!
