Get Your Kids Involved With Your Hot Dog Cart
Hey Slingers (and those who want to be)!
I just got some totally cool pictures in an email from new HDP Premium Member Mark Johnson. Here is a sneak peak…
Mark is starting a hot dog cart and is going to be working with his 9 year old son Garrett. They are even naming the business after Garrett. It’s going to be called “Little G’s Hot Dogs and More”.
I really love it when youngsters take an interest in their parent’s hot dog biz. The benefits are many!
A hot dog cart is the perfect platform to teach kids about responsibility, cleanliness, money, time management, social skills, perseverance, and the rewards of honest work.
A hot dog biz can be passed down. More than one of my students has told me that when they retire from slingin’ dogs, they will be passing down their business to a son or daughter. Imagine owning a business that may end up being run by two or three generations of your family. What a legacy!
Mark was telling me that he was sitting in his living room a few days ago watching Garrett play with his Legos. When asked what he was building, Garret replied, “I’m building a hot dog cart for our business”.
Upon closer inspection, Mark was blown away. Garrett really did a great job on the Lego cart, all the way down to dual propane tanks! This thing has little ketchup and mustard containers, an awning, steam tables, fold down side shelves, even a side door that opens for storage.
Mark jumped right in, printing up some decals to add to the hot dog cart, replicating the actual signage that they will be using on the E-Z Built Hot Dog Cart that they are going to build for their business.
Congratulations on being a great dad Mark! Working together with Garrett is going to be an experience that both of you will remember for the rest of your lives.

Great job, and best of luck to both of you!
Thanks for posting the pics Steve. When I read the article to Garrett his face lit up and now he’s telling everyone he’s famous.
that is so creative, love the childs mind. He will be a slinger one day!!!!
I am doing the same exact thing. My son is 9 and I named the business after him. I would love to pass the tradition down some day.
That is great. I want a Lego hot dog cart for my desk.
My daughter works with me at my cart. She started this year. She gets $5 for the hour she is with me, she signs and hands out the customer cards, gets the drinks, bags of chips, hands out the change. It is great to have her there. We get to hang out, and she learns a bit about business, customer service, etc.
My son Sam is 8 I let him name ours he said Handsome Sam’s hot dogs so there you go. we hope to have it done by 4th of July
Way to go. Garrett! I’m sure you and your dad will have a great time doing business together.
