I have a confession to make. Some time ago I developed a strange habit. And now I can’t stop. In fact, my wife makes fun of me for it.
You see, I take pictures of my food. A lot of pictures. There – I said it.
I love to cook and I love to eat out. Whenever I make or order something particularly tasty (or pretty – I’m very into presentation) I’ll whip out my iPhone and snap a picture of it. It usually ends up on my Facebook page. (Friend me if you want to at http://www.facebook.com/steve.schaible – this is my personal Facebook page so you’ll see a lot more than just hot dog stuff there.)
Pancho from Papa Dogs in Coachella Valley, California sent me a gorgeous photo of one of his culinary creations, and it sparked an idea in my head. What a great feature this would make!
So send me pictures of your own gastronomic creations and from time to time I’ll feature them here on Hot Dog Cart News. You can email them to steve@hotdogprofits.com
Pancho’s masterpiece… click the pic to see an art gallery size picture suitable for framing.
Pancho writes, “Hi Guys this is one of Papa-Dogs Favorite Hot-Dogs served in the Coachella valley Calif, with my pat./Hot-Dog special sauce and my grilled onions it’s a sale $$ my customers whom buy these are 50% latino and the others, 50% that used to eat American style or chicago style Dogs. Now prefer The Papa-Dogs, style with the grilled onions, and for me its much easier, and better to make , and taste is by far 100% better. Thanks Papa-Dogs Coachella Vally California.”
Thank you Pancho – a true masterpiece!!! This one is going on my Facebook.
I’ll be calling this series “Food Cart Showcase” because there are a whole lot of us that serve more than just hot dogs from our carts and I want to see it all. In fact, I know of a guy that serves asiago chicken alongside his wonder weenie… send me a pic Marcus!
And remember – you saw it here first at the original, the one and only HotDogProfits.com.

I love the idea.
IT’S LIKE WHEN YOUR “KIDS” YOUNG AND YOU ‘AL CAN LAUGTH AND SHARE THE GOOD OLDS.
SO KEEP ON TAKING PICTURS, WHO KNOWS MAYBE ONE DAY U WILL HAVE HOT DOG BOOK. TO SHARE WITH OTHES WHO ARE STATING OFF.
i find that if i put all the hard toppings on first, then the mustard or ketchup, mayonaisse, last it make the presentation of my dogs far prettier.
Hey Steve!! I do the same thing. my friends and family joke about it. I personally don’t see anything wrong with it. When you go on vacation you may take a shot or two of some inanimate object like a tree a mountain or a nice-looking car. Food is closely linked to your other senses like taste and smell. If you come across a dish that really satisfies your senses what’s wrong with capturing the moment. That being said I had an idea the other day about incorporating a new item on my hot dog cart. The weather is starting to chill up here in New Jersey. I was thinking of offering hot chocolate with whipped cream or marshmallows. naturally my first thought was what is the most efficient way to heat the water to serve it. I was thinking of some sort of teapot I could place close to one of my steam table burners. then I had the idea of my propane water heater. I can get a 130° + water temperature instantly out of this thing. I am a plumber by trade. and I was thinking about placing an in-line water filtration system on the input of my hot water heater. like the ones they use on the machines at the coffee shops. they are relatively small and can be hoped up with a couple flare fittings or compression fittings. have you ever heard of anybody doing this I would like to hear your thoughts.
This is a great idea ! Gettin’ Hungry already…
Steve taking photos is not dum at all, my X wife does the same thing when she orders food out or makes it in the house. she always sends me a photo of the plate and how it looks lol. as for your idea, i love the concept of the taking a photo of the dog and how it looks great thinking

Ithink that everyone likes to see what they want to eat and that all menu boards should include a photo of each item you have to offer i’m sure it will boost the sales dramaticly.
Vinny, LOVE the idea. I was just thinking of the same thing for Hot Chocolate. If you use a separate water heater, you could lower the water flow and increase the gas. I tried it and got 180 consistently.
I’m Hungry now after seeing that,no time to make a real comment have to eat now…………………

Is that any picture of your creations, or just Hot Dogs. I serve up a FRITO CHILI BOAT that will give you a vision of God. It is the ultimate of street food.
I heard that there is a Japanese inventor that has taken pictures of every meal he has eaten for many, many years as a sort of “food diary”. Great idea. For you iPhone users there is an app called “foodspotting” that allows you to share pics of food and their location with others. I think that it’s a great way to combine what we’re talking about with a little advertising in your local communities. They say you eat with your eyes first, but who knew that so many people were taking home visual doggie bags?
Pancho- what do you charge for that awesome dog?
Is that cream cheese or queso blanco?
Great idea of Vinny and Poppa’s. More research to do! Pictures say a thousand words-I forgot how strong a picture can be. I’m hoping to be back on the street tomorrow-I pulled an old back injury Sunday loading up my cart-and I’m going to take pictures of the diferent types of dogs for my menu board as Dwight suggested and some for you Steve. Mr. Tiki
this dog looks really good
Let me know what yall think of my setup
