This just in from HDCN reader Wanda Swan…
Hi Steve,
We are going full steam into our 2nd season starting tomorrow! I am so excited! Our customers have asked about us all winter! (We took the WHOLE WINTER OFF! It was GREAT!)
Thank you, Steve for all that you have done for us! Without you there would be no Dixie Kitchen! I’ve attached a couple of pic of us at the local ag fair, during the demo derby! We had a blast watching it and even more fun when it was over and we sold all of those people hot dogs! (We sold 6 cases of water during that event!!) One of the pcitures is my son, Zach who helps me run the cart.
I wanted to let everyone who is considering building their own hot dog cart, like we did, that Harbor Freight Tools has the cart base (utility trailer) on sale for 179.00 (reg price 199.00) Sale ends Feb 27th.
Wanda Swan, Owner and Operator!

Thanks for the heads up Wanda!
If you’ve been thinking about building your own E-Z Built Hot Dog Cart, the time to get started is now while the trailer frame is on sale.
This is the exact trailer frame that we recommend in the E-Z Built Bill of Materials.
Grab a copy of the plans here, then get over to Harbor Freight and get your trailer frame while it’s still cheap.
The season is quickly approaching. You could be slingin dogs just like Wanda in a couple of weeks.
Don’t miss out on any of that fun (and money – 6 cases of water bottles, wow)!
-Steve
P.S. Here’s Wanda’s demo derby pics – who doesn’t love the demo derby?!!! Go Zach!
Steve,
If you go to the Harbor Freight home page there is a banner at the top of the page stating that there is a ONE-DAY SAVINGS OF 20% OFF ON ANY ONE ITEM. PRINT THE PAGE AND TAKE THE BARCODE TO THE STORE….OR THERE IS A CODE FOR ONLINE ORDERS, BUT THAT REQUIRES DELIVERY, NO STORE PICK-UPS. That is another $36.00 in savings if you purchase the trailer OR any item (PROPANE BURNER, ETC). Thought I would inform you and the others!
Buddy-
Hot dog season is fast approaching. Less shoveling…more slinging. Yay!
Thanks Buddy – great tip!
-Steve
Awesome Wanda! Sell ’em all!
I just wanted to add my two cents worth. If you are considering the hot dog biz, building your own cart is the way to go. I just completed building our first E-Z Built cart. We purchased our first cart two years ago and this year we built our second cart. The sense of pride and accomplishment was ten times as satisfying as buying a cart. I am not sure we will ever buy a cart again. The plans are adaptable to your personal needs and wants for your own hot dog cart.
Season started last week in Colorado and business is good. It’s my first year and I’m loving it!
Thanks Steve
Hey also don’t forget to go to harbor freight web site and get the 20% off 1 item coupon…. I used it to got my trailer and saved and i took a buddy with for the stove
Steve:
Just got back from a trip to Oahu, Hawaii. didn’t
see any carts but tons of food trucks. thinking
about moving back to the islands. Need to find someone that is actually vending hot dogs from a
cart their. You can post my email address if necessary. tks. Jim
” Do you want legs with your dog”
wish you best of luck for your new business…hope it goes well…
So it seems as though me and my friend may have to build the hot dog cart from scratch so I will probly buy the e-z trailer first so what about the floor or do you already have the plans for that in the plans and if I build a wood cart is it safe for the burners
Hi Lordjer,
The plans contain a materials list that specifies all of the parts and materials needed to complete the cart including the flooring.
The burners are contained in an easy to construct metal firebox. No welding or riveting required. Yes it is safe.
