Hot Dogs, The Permanent Recession, And Some Very Good News

jobs

I love writing about the hot dog business, reading excited emails from my students, and hearing success stories which I then get to share with you, dear reader. We are blessed to have this wonderful opportunity known as hot dog vending, especially now.

Although enterprising individuals have been slingin’ dogs for a hundred years, in many ways the hot dog cart  business is an even better fit in our future than it was in our past.

The Permanent Recession. Normal recessions come and go every 10 to 20 years. They are cyclical in nature and things always get better with time. I believe we are on our way out of this kind of recession as we speak.

But this time there is a major difference. We are actually in two recessions at once, and I’m afraid one of them is permanent. Continue reading “Hot Dogs, The Permanent Recession, And Some Very Good News”

Hot Dog Profits Reaching Europe

Picture 2

This is really neat – I just got an email from Hot Dog Profits reader Steve Nott in South Wales!

Hi There,

I’m in the UK and just about to ‘go live’. I have bought a ‘New York’ hot dog tricycle and my prices here will be favourable with the customers at £2 a hotdog. I won’t be doing any deals, just keeping it simple, £2 a dog and that’s it.

I don’t have the room for soda cans and extras, it’s hard enough to stock enough bread and dogs in such a small cart but should be able to shift approx 250 a day with 100% mark up seeing as the whole thing costs 49p in total 9 forgetting the cost of my cart.

It’s great to see what others say and thank you for your emails.

I got a big kick out of that, thank you Steve for sending it. And send some pictures when you are up and doggin’!

Let’s hear it for our U.K. brother dogger in the comments…

Haunted Houses and Hot Dog Carts – A Terrifyingly Profitable Combination.

Picture 6

When I was a little kid in Texas my parents took me to a haunted house which was being held at my grade school.

I wasn’t scared to go because, after all, it was at my school. I went there every day. It was totally familiar. What could go wrong?

Plenty as it turns out.

First, it was dark. Real dark. Like, night time dark…

Second, as soon as I entered the building I realized that Continue reading “Haunted Houses and Hot Dog Carts – A Terrifyingly Profitable Combination.”

JoDogs Is Open For Business!

Picture 1

Hi Steve,

Here are some pics of my cart.  I started building her the first of  March, the reason it took so long was I kept running out of money. I’m retired  and still have a mortgage, (kids at home, don’t retire before you pay your home off).

I made a few variations on the plan.  I upgraded the faucets so I could
turn them off with my elbow or forearm if the HD preferred.

I also thought about crossing customer traffic to use the sinks so I switched the locations of the water heater and the hand washing sink.  That way I can serve from the right side and use the sinks without fighting a massive crowd.

The health inspector said I did a great job and wished me luck, I think we will get Continue reading “JoDogs Is Open For Business!”

A Part Time Hot Dog Cart Business Is A Great Way To Get Started

Picture 1

Here’s an email from a really nice guy who’s starting out right, plus a special discount offer at the end of the article.

Hi Steve,

I have finally completed my E-Z Built Hot Dog Cart. Right now I have a spot on the riverfront in Westbrook ME. I have only been out a couple of times, made some money and enjoyed it very much.

I am still working full time and hope to make the transition to hot dog guy in the spring.

As for the cart, the name is Mtn. Man Hotdogs. I am an avid hiker and have been called the mtn man for a long time so the name was a no brainer. My mom painted the picture of Mt Katahdin (Maine’s highest peak) and my dad was the master mind behind the construction of the cart.

I want to thank you for the video. It was easy to follow and well done. Also thanks for potentially having my own way to make money without depending on corporate America.

Thanks again and have a great day!

Nice job Dennis!

A lot of people ask me about running a part time hot dog cart vs full time hot dog vending. Here’s what I tell them:

You don’t have to quit your day job – at least not right off the bat. You simply don’t need to work full time in order to enjoy great success in the Continue reading “A Part Time Hot Dog Cart Business Is A Great Way To Get Started”

Big Momma’s Hot Dog House!

hds1

Hi Steve,

I’m finished with my E-Z Built Hot Dog Cart and have been slingin’ for 3 weeks. Awesome!

My husband made mine 6 feet long, so I’d have more working space. He made me do ALL of the plumbing by myself to make sure I could fix it on the spot! Hope you like it?

I’ve already been booked through December 11th by one group here in San Antonio,TX.

My husband got me the larger George Foreman grill for my bacon wrapped dogs and an AWESOME location on Continue reading “Big Momma’s Hot Dog House!”

Happy Hippie Hot Dogs

Picture 7

I LOVE emails like this one from a reader who’s KILLIN’ it!…

Hello Steve,

Well after ordering your E-Z Built Hot Dog Cart plans, we are up and running.  Here are a few pics and I promise to send you a
T-shirt.

Craig Norman

Thanks for the pics Craig. Awesome job!

This is exactly what I’m talking about when I say, “Don’t just sell a hot dog, sell an EXPERIENCE!”

An entertaining, exciting experience is something that can separate you from all the other choices available to your customers. It draws people to you, generates tremendous word of mouth, and makes you highly memorable. Repeat customers rock!

It also frees you from having to compete on price, which is without a doubt the most miserable way to run your business.

Happy Hippie Hot Dogs definitely has it’s U.S.P down cold. In case you’re new around here, U.S.P. stands for Unique Selling Proposition. You gotta have one. It’s what sets you apart from your competition and allows you to charge higher prices.

Let’s hear it for Craig in the comments, and spend some time thinking about your U.S.P.

YEAH, baby! Groovy!
