The Hot Dog Electrocuter. Craziest Hot Dog Cooker Ever.

.

As long as we’re on the subject of electricity, did you know that hot dogs are great conductors? Well apparently they are. In fact, this antique hot dog cooker works on the same principle as the electric chair!

Richard Larrison owns the “Worlds Largest Small Electric Appliance Museum” in Diamond Missouri. He has collected over 7000 waffle irons, coffee pots, blenders, mixers, electric razors, and (drum roll please….)

The Hot Dog Electrocuter!

Impale a hot dog on the electrodes, flip the switch, and you’ll soon have a nice hot electrocuted hot dog. Zaps five dogs at a time. The manufacturer claims that, “Electrocuted hot dogs are delicious!”

Who thinks of this stuff?!!!

How to Connect Your Hot Dog Cart Batteries.

How to Connect Your Hot Dog Cart Batteries.

.

Do you need to use more than one battery on your hot dog cart? Did you know there is a wrong way, a right way, and an even better way to connect multiple batteries?

In last week’s article I talked about hot dog cart batteries. To sum it up, you want to be using deep cycle batteries on your hot dog cart.

What if you are putting a heavy load on that battery, such as running a fridge or crock pots? You may run out of juice before your gig is over.

In that case you can hook up two or three deep cycle batteries together. You’ll get much longer run times. BUT… You had better connect them properly or you will be sorry.

Batteries can be connected in series or in parallel.

If you connect two batteries in series, it doubles the voltage.

You do NOT want to connect your batteries in series. 12 volt appliances and 12V power inverters are designed to run on 12 volts, not 24. If you send 24 volts into them you will fry them instantly. Expensive and dangerous. Also, burning cables smell bad.

Most people hook up the batteries in parallel like this, which is O.K to do…

But there is an even better way. If you connect the positive and negative cables to separate batteries, you will balance the load more evenly during use and during charging. Your batteries will last longer and perform better. Connect them like this…

Happy slinging slinger!

What Is the Best Hot Dog Cart Battery?

What Is the Best Hot Dog Cart Battery?

.

Steve, I have a quick question for you. You had said that any marine deep cycle battery will do to run lights, radio,. My question is, does it have to be a marine, or will any deep cycle rechargeable battery work for the purpose? Wal-Mart has a deep cycle they said would work, but it isn’t a marine, and harbour freight has another for powering solar, but it is just a 12 volt rechargeable. Thanks for the help on this.

*************************************************

Hi Teri,

No, it does not have to be rated “Marine”. But yes, it needs to be a “deep cycle” battery, not a “starting” battery.

What’s the difference?

Both deep cycle and starting batteries are lead-acid batteries. They use the same chemical reaction to produce electricity but they are built very differently for very different uses.

The term “deep cycle” means that this type of battery was designed to be discharged slowly and deeply all the way to empty and then recharged again. This process of deep discharging and recharging over and over is what called the battery’s “cycle”.

Many of these batteries are used to power electric trolling motors on fishing boats, hence the “marine” designation.

You will also find deep cycle batteries in use on RVs. These don’t need the “marine” rating.

Deep cycle batteries are very different than an automotive starting battery which is designed for very brief bursts of full power output. A starter battery will work for powering lights but not nearly as well as a deep cycle battery.

That is why you don’t want to leave your car headlights on without your engine running. A starting battery will be depleted quickly because it isn’t designed for that mission.

If you need to start your tow vehicle, get a starting battery. If you need to power electrical equipment on your cart, get a deep cycle battery.

Hey Slinger,

Do you want to be in the movies? I just got a call from Victoria Craven, a producer in New York.

She needs a cart and an operator to sling dogs in the background of a movie that she is shooting. It would be an eight hour day and it will be on either the 13th, 14th or 15th of October (to be determined) in Manhattan.

If you want to do it, email Victoria at victoria@urbannyc.com

Good luck!

Hot Dog Cart Needed

Who wants $700 for six hours of fun (I mean work)? I need a Hot Dog Cart vendor for a two day gig.

It’s 3 hours on October 9th, and 3 hours on October 10th. It is a store Grand Opening event.

You will give away 600 to 700 Hot Dogs each day, ketchup and mustard ONLY. The promoter will reimburse you up front for all product costs and pay you $700 for your time.

Here are the details…

This is an excellent gig. I have worked with this promoter many times before and my slingers who have worked these gigs have all had glowing reports.

This time the gig is in Memphis TN.

Hi Dorothy,

There are a LOT of things to consider when choosing between a stand in hot dog cart and a push cart. When I say push cart I’m referring to the kind of hot dog cart that you stand behind but is still towable behind a vehicle.

A push cart can Continue reading “Hot Dog Carts – Push Cart vs Stand In. What’s best?”
