Chris and His Hot Dog Cart Are Off to a Nice Start!

Inflatable hot dog

Hello Steve

Thought you might like to see a few pictures of my setup, I have somewhat of a hybrid I bought an old restaurant to renovate and decided to open up my stand in front of it for now, I’m on M-115 a busy rural state highway in Northern Michigan and getting people to stop will be an ongoing project. I had a soft opening last Thursday thru Sunday averaged 50 people a day with 800 cars an hour drive by, my goal is 150 customers a day. My giant hot dog mounted on my Suzuki Samurai is an attention getter. Your website was a big help

Thanks!

Hot Dog Cart Modifications. What and How?

Hey Slingers (and those who want to be),

This is one of my favorite times of the year. Why? Because I have time to do all the stuff that I’ve been putting off all year.

Let me tell you a story about two lumber jacks who were in a tree cutting contest. When the starting whistle blew, the first lumberjack went all out and just sawed, sawed, sawed, sawed, non-stop. Sweat was pouring down his face. His muscles ached. He felt like his heart was going to burst.

The second lumberjack sawed then sat down for a while, sawed some more and then stopped for a while, sawed some more… and… WON!

The first lumberjack asked him what he was doing during his breaks. The second lumberjack answered, Continue reading “Hot Dog Cart Modifications. What and How?”

Who is slinging hot dogs through the winter?

Who is slinging hot dogs through the winter?

.

Hey Slingers!

The weather is getting cooler but that’s not necessarily a reason to put the hot dog cart away. If you can get outside you just might sell more hot dogs in January than you will in August.

The truth is that hot food sells better when it’s nippy out. All you have to do is dress for the weather and you can make really great money all winter long if you want to.

Of course you don’t want to  be outside in a blizzard but most winter days are pretty tolerable if you come prepared.

The number one thing you need to take care of is your feet and your ears. They are the parts of the body most susceptible to the cold.

Get some good boots. Buy them one size too large and wear layers of socks. This will keep your tootsies toasty all day!

I hate hats so earmuffs are usually my first choice of head protection.

And don’t forget about your cart. Water lines can freeze and burst overnight if not taken care of. Be sure to drain all your water, especially from your water heater. Blow the lines out with compressed air and store your cart indoors when you’re not using it.

If you don’t want to drain the water every day you can cover your cart with blankets and put a 100 watt utility light inside to help keep everything above freezing temp.

How about you? Do you have any cold weather vending tips? Let’s share them in the comments below!

-Steve

P.S. If you’re thinking about getting started in the hot dog biz don’t wait for warmer weather. Get started now! You’ll get a jump on the competition and you can start booking private gigs now. Go for it, and let me know if I can help you in any way.

Hot Dog Slingers Help a Sick Child

Steve,

Just wanted you to know that we passed our health inspection with flying colors today!

I’m sending you a picture of our cart but we are waiting for our logo to be created so we should have that in the next day or two. Of course once we have that we can send you pics for the website as well as a little summary for your website.

Our first event (this Saturday) is a benefit for friends of ours that have a sick grandchild that was born 3 months premature. 500 to 1000 people. 100% of our profits will be donated to the family. They have also ordered hotdogs to sell for the kids but they only bought 80 so we are taking over after they run out (of course they will very fast). 11am to 11pm. Talking about thrown in the fire! We are excited to kick it off with giving back to our community.

Thank you for providing us with the tools to make this happen.

Thanks

Good for you Scott and Kris!

I think it’s great that your first event is also a chance to help a child. Isn’t it great that not only do our hot dog carts provide us with an income, but they also provide us with a way to help others.

I hear from my slingers all the time about events that they have done for one great cause after another. It’s a great way to contribute to the community and it’s great publicity as well. Nothing wrong with that.

I wish you continued success!

-Steve

Thank You Vets!

Thank You Vets!

“The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation.” – George Washington

I want to say a sincere and humble thank you to all my slinger vets, and to all veterans of the United States of America Armed Services.

Whether you served in the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines, or Air Force, please know that you are truly appreciated.

I, my family, my church, and my country owe you a debt that cannot be repaid. It is because of your sacrifice that we are free.
