I love hot dogs. I also love airplanes, especially older ones. So when Daniel wrote to tell me about how he combined a hot dog cart and a 1951 Convair Air Force trainer to make a super cool eatery, I was riveted (pun intended).
Daniel writes:
Hello Steve,
We just opened AeroDogs at the beginning of the new year. The airplane is a Convair 240 that was used in the USAF as a navigational Trainer T-29-A. It was built in 1951 and used for many moons. I am still getting in contact with the USAF to see if I can dig up her records and photos. I have attached a few pics of her and we have been getting rave reviews from the community. I serve Hotdogs, Linguica, Tamales, Frito Boats and Sourdough bread bowls. All products are from Central California and our soda’s are handcrafted from a local micro-brewery. It’s a good combination. Your Cash Tracker software is good and very reasonable, purchasing was cost effective for my business and I am about complete in putting everything in. Simplicity is key. Please check us out online at www.aerodogs.com.

I don’t think Daniel has any trouble getting his hot dog business noticed.
Talk about word of mouth advertising and free publicity!
This got the old gears turning in my head. I’m thinking there must be a ton of salvageable stuff out there that would make a great add-on to a hot dog cart business, turning it into a hot dog “destination”.
I’m also betting that a lot of it would be free in exchange for hauling it off someone’s property.
Let’s brainstorm some other hot dog stand/salvage combinations in the comments, and remember to click the blue “fShare” button at the upper left.

That is awesome
That’s thinking outside the box! People in California sure have a different take on hot dog carts AND thinking!
Sooooo stinkin’ cool. That is affixed to land?
Neat, but kinda tough to haul the plane around! ha..a…ha….
Gee, I wonder where I can find a old tank….good for those muddy festival fields!
All I can say is wow. Love the plaine. Love the idea. Love everything about it. And yes you just gave me a ton of ideas. Wish you a ton of luck and best wishes
Tony
WOW!! love it! wishing you many Blessings.
A tank – cool!
I ate there 6 years ago, it is a cool place for a dog. its the only dog house ive found in the usa
Got my vote!!
TOO COOL!
Did you have to sit it up as a restaurant? That’awesome. I’ve had my own ideas, not as extravagant, but have been told I’d have to set up with plumbing, etc. Any savy speak helps me go a long way! bigmommashotdogs@gmail.com . Thanks and , I’d say good luck but it looks like you just winged it! SMILE!!!!!!!
This is the Greatest Idea I’ve seen yet ! WOW !
Is a battleship too much? Maybe a Dreadnought? You could call it Dreadnought Dogs. Delivery and real estate might be a problem though. My grandfather would love AeroDogs. He flew those planes. I love your setup and I’d jump on a tailwind and jettison for a Frito Boat. Much success to you!
how about a caboos from an old train?
Wow!!! Just an incredible idea. :0) Well there went my shoestring budget. Fabulos interior. Do I see an entrance on both sides? And the CARGO table top is a nice touch as well. Over all score on a 1 to 10 is no less than a 12.3. Congratulations on a work of art.
The caboose is a wonderful idea. There used to be one around here, at the Harley shop….hmmmm. Great ideas, of course!!!
Every Thing about this just blows my mind, and that logo by far the best i have seen!!!!!!!!
LOVE IT! Super idea, great experience! But (sorry, I can’t resist) will it ever get off the ground? From all the comments and what I see, I’d say it already has. Super cool, way to go!
…off the ground. Nice one Robin 😉
I’m diggin’ the caboose idea too!

What about a hippie bus spray painted with peace signs, etc. It doesn’t even have to run so you could probably get it for the price of a tow to your spot.
-Steve
That’s a really cool idea – and great looking.
It certainly catches the customer’s eye from the street. I might have flown in that very plane when I went through navigator training back in 1962-63. I used to take sextant shots of the stars, sun, and moon sighting thru those domes on top of the plane.
I have been considering converting my antique 1974 American LaFrance aerial ladder (hook and ladder) firetruck into a hot dog cart. It’s still in the dream stage. I’m in Alaska and it’s stored in Florida. Check out its pix here:
Steve –
Somehow I got two identical photo links into my post. Here is the second photo of my fire truck.
Sorry for the duplication. ;o)
Dan
the menu is terrific, love the whole idea. The best of luck and good business for the years ahead.
Dan, I’m jealous. You flyboys are my heros. Thanks for all you guys did for us!
-Steve
Outstanding logo…
I like the VEE DUB bus, have though about it often, no tow power though! good luck!
Daniel,
I really like the look of your restaurant. I checked out your website though and noticed that you haven’t included the area code for your phone number and the address doesn’t say what state you are located in. I have been known to take some pretty lengthly road trips for a good dog, but like to call ahead occasionally and know what state I’m driving to. Good luck with your business it looks like you have a place that will practically market itself.
That is like the coolest hot dog set up I have seen to this date.
My hat’s off to you. Love it! Keep slingin’ dem dogs.
Two tickets, please.
Hey Steve,
There is a VW Bus hot dog stand set up her in Nashville. I can’t find a website but you can go to You Tube and type in ” I Dream Of Weeenie” and see a video on them by one of our local TV stations. There are also some other interesting videos of Hot Dogs stands also. I just love the Airplane set up
That is totally awesome! That is thinking outside of the box to the hilt! Good Luck!!
Wow! This is amazing!
GOOD SHOW! I WISH I WOULD HAVE COME UP WITH THAT!
