Who wants to make $200 an hour selling hot dogs? Read this very inspirational email that I just received from one of my Premium students. Doug writes…

Steve, here is something for your readers.
Just a note to all the people who are on the fence about wondering whether they should or should not invest in a hot dog cart business, I have the following comments.
I have followed your wisdom and have invested in your literature about the hot dog business.
I have been in the business for just shy of three years. There have been some ups and downs in the business but by sticking with it, the hot dog business has proven to be very successful for me.
I have just landed a gig which will pay me over 200 dollars an hour for about 5 hours of work .
Now, if that is not justification for sticking with it I don’t know what is.
Thank you Steve for all you do.

Good for you Doug!!!!
I don’t know that I’m all that wise (ask my wife if you want an honest answer, lol!) but I do know one thing for sure.
You just made my day. I’m so happy for you!!!!
I really love the hot dog biz and I really love teaching others how they can have their own business. A really FUN business that gives them pride of ownership, massive freedom, the opportunity to meet new people every day, a chance to exercise their creativity and love for food, and a great potential income.
I think I’m pretty good at teaching this stuff too. (There, I tooted my own horn. Beep. Beep.)
But – after the student goes through all the courses in Hot Dog Profits Premium it’s up to them to act on that information just like Doug did – and look at where he is now…
A thousand dollar day. Wow!
Now, let me be straight with you, my future slinger. That is not an average day. That is an extraordinary, very cool, jump-up-and-down-on-the-couch-when-you-get-home kind of day!
In the beginning you will definitely make much less than that. In fact there are no guarantees of any income at all because this will be YOUR business. Not Doug’s, not mine. Yours.
You will get out of it what you put into it. If you don’t get up and do something you will make zero dollars a day. That I can guarantee.
Nothing happens until you actually get out there and take the first baby step. Then the next step. And the next. And then exactly 36 more steps.
I actually lay out all 39 steps for my Premium students in a document called (what else?) The Action Plan. Just follow it.
Before you know it you will be opening your umbrella on a beautiful sunny day and lighting the burners on your hot dog cart. You will be a little nervous.
A few minutes later you will sell your first hot dog to your first customer.
And you will smile.
-Steve
P.S. Let’s hear it for Doug in the comments. He is the one who created his own success!
Cool gig matey!

1St Mate Jim.
Aye, ‘twoud be a treasure chest fer sure mate!
Aye matey, lots of booty !!
Cool Doug, way to go. My 3rd day @ my new location and I am @ $25.00 an hour profit.
Wonderful!!! Way to go Dan!
It is possible as only last weekend at a local motorcycle show we raked in 800.00 from 9am to 2pm. It could have bern higher but we ran out of product and steam! That was no breaks and non stop hustling. While hot dogs are not on my menu, I use Steve’s methods and subscribe to all his writings. His techniques are universal.
That’s a lotta java Roger! Awesome!
that sounds great.i am one step away from starting, health department inspection, and i hope one day to send you a comment close to that
I’m sure you will Joe. Good luck on your inspection!
Thats great!! I am curious as are others here, what kikind of gig?
Just for curiosity, what was the gig? I’ve been in business for just about one month and had some excellent prospects. but if the weather doesn’t cooperate where I’m at I’ll be lucky to make $200 this month!
You just started a month ago. The sun will come out and so will the customers. With that awesome cart of yours, you’ll do just fine.
Keep a constant eye out for new locations & the weather map.
Stand out in your own way. Serve a top quality product Don’t give up.
By the end of the summer you will have a different take on things.
the person who makes $1000 a day is wonderful keep up the good work and someday I will make a thousand a day are even more god bless you
Hey Big! Glad to see you on here!
Congratulations!
Way to go! There are all types of ways to make money in this business if you are creative, and present well. We, my husband and I do many fairs and festivals through the summer months so that type of money is totally realistic.
We were super lucky recently. The local newspaper did both a full page, in color article on us in the newspaper, and also an online version. I received many emails wanting more information.
From that article, we were able to pick up a very large youth soccer team. The gig started early May, every Saturday, and runs till June 13. There are different groups of kids all day from 11 till the last game at 5. They love us so they want us to come back in the Fall. The cool thing is, where ever there are kids, there are hungry parents, and extended family. We’ve been selling a ton of Gatorade.
We just snagged a very large Harley Davidson dealer. Today was our first day and we are invited to set up as many days as possible. The managers are willing to work around our spring/summer schedule.
Harley Davidson is a good lead for you guys. The dealerships sponsor many large events, chapter meets, Charity rides, and other large marketing events. Some days they will pay us to serve, and other days the customer will pay for their own.
I know we got lucky with this one. So if you have a Harley Davidson near by, and I mean the big dealerships, check it out. They have the budget!
Hi Jill, you are right on. It’s just as easy to pitch your services to a big business as it is to a small one. Go for the one that has the budget.
My hot dog location is next to a big shopping center. I pull in almost $800 a day from 11am-6pm. Thank you for all your tips and motivation. I sell sabrett hotdogs and hot sausages. My client list range for policemen, construction workers, etc. I love my job! There is nothing like being your own boss and having fun time doing so.
That’s a great location for sure!
I finaly got all my stuff done and I started a week ago and I’m making about 25.00 an hour by following some of steve advise ???????? very happy with my hot dog cart, it’s called Cary’s hotdogs
Great start Cary!
Great job. My location next to a farmers market got me 100$ an hour and I was only there for 2. Sold out. Bought more for this week. Where’s that action plan on the site Steve. Refreshers never hurt.
That’s really good! Way to go! The Action Plan is in the Carts of Cash book, both the old hard copy version and the new updated online version.
Great job, sweet gig and awesome payoff! Keep up the good work bud!
You’ve done pretty good yourself Stevie. Full time slinger – living the dream!
This is all very awesome!!! I am working on getting a stand of my own and am really excited to see all of your success stories 🙂 I plan on having some of my own to share in that we can all continue to inspire each other!!!
Let me know how I can help you Jeremy.
Had one of those gigs about 3 years ago at a school book sale/ carnival. The folks seem to never stop coming.
My wife was helping me out and when all was said and done we had made a nice profit.
Keep slinging…
Awesome Robert!
Nice!!! People listen up, I would like to toss something into the mix, do you want to do $200 an hr maybe more????? I have three carts one on a corner does well I run it and close it my menuses have the days I am closed important!!!! The two other carts I use at fest’s. And county fairs as well as music festivals well like rocknfest and country thunder . the shows will bring in potential $10,000 weekends now they are 4 and 5 day weekends and the fest’s cost about $700 to $4000 to set up a 10×10 easy up and my two carts. Why two carts? Because one couldn’t keep up with the value I was bringing in. Rules are not as strict at fest’s so you can do different things like Italian Needs or pulled pork both sit well in steam tables. I do travel to two different states to do shows.and some shows are flops but most arnt! And doing shows are like going to your cart every day the first year you may not break the bank but you will make money I promis . but the second year people remember that hot dog guy with all the neat attachments and real Chicago style dogs and OMG his crazy dog with cream cheese on it!!! Your back I was just telling my buddy about you !!!! Look its a business fest’s and fairs are great and bring in more cash them my pizza place did several years ago!! But the most important thing in selling food and any food good or bad isbyou stay consistent with your foods sell same dogs use same toppings and I mean the same dontnstray away weather on a corner or at a fest I do 6 a year and run my cart on same corner for 4 years now both do well my menues say I will be gone on the dates I have the shows !!! I even put a bring the menus to the feast or show I’m doing and get one free dog!! I work 5 montheps a year that’s it well I do dona shoe in fl every winter but that pays for my 2 week and 3 day vaca the 3 days are at a rock concert selling dogs!!! But the rest of the cold Chicago winter I get and its long as well I male enough to do whatever I want in the winter /off months you can to don’t give up try feasts and remember they may have a dog person their so get on list and 5y another it will pay off life is good and dogs are flying happy memorial day !!! Oh and if you can talk to abnlocal bed store or furniture store ask if you can put cart their this weekend in your town its their biggest sale of the year millions of advertisement dollars out their peace bout Uncle Bibby’s sausage shack!!
AWESOME!
That creates a goal for me!

Steve, I am a Hot Dog Premium Member and would like to know if you have any members in the GREAT little “First State” of Delaware?
Thank You Larry
With close to 2000 members I’m sure we do, although our privacy policy doesn’t allow us to share customer information.
Thanks for the info
My pleasure Koosier!
How do you franchise the business?
And gow do you know who to trust ehat qualities should i look for ?
Franchising is a big, complicated undertaking. It is much easier to hire employees to run multiple carts and you just manage them. You need to build a repeatable business model first, then think about licensing or franchising after you really know what you are doing.
New to the business and want to know if any slinger’s have a cart set up at a golf course. We are trying to raise our revenue take; to offset town subsidized expenses at a small community golf course, and I am trying to determine the best way to get it under way, as I am on the Course Commission
It’s really not much different than any other location. Permission, permit, inspection, marketing, etc. We cover it all here.
I have a cart made by Custom-Cart I’ve had it for 10 years and did fest and on our town square 3 days a week did well. Then 5 years ago I had a heart transplant all is good now. Got the old cart last month shined it up and back in business. Are u familar with Custom Carts I’m wondering if u know of a way that I can tell the age of my cart
Custom Carts are a good quality cart John. I don’t know how to tell the build date, sorry. Glad you’re back!
-Steve
question are guys that sell dogs on cash basis or did you included a slide card for credit / debit too. thank you Rob S.
I strongly recommend using Square to take credit and debit cards.
i bought a cart and i am using it but i need help fixing the propane line under the steamer. Im in Tampa fl can you send me in the right direction for help with this. I had a professional come out and seal my line and said he didnt want to do the work to fix it that it would cost me to much. ive put alot into this cart and i dont want to give up what should i do?
Sorry but you didn’t say exactly what is wrong with the propane line. Shouldn’t be hard to fix, try someone else.
