One of the best parts of being involved in the hot dog vending business is the opportunity to make new friends in the process.
Long time readers will be familiar with two characters who comment here regularly, Robin “Dixie” Delancy who own the Lakeside Lunch hot dog cart, and “First Mate Jim” from the hot dog boat Weiners On Water.
Well it looks like Robin decided to visit Jim on the Connecticut River last week in her kayak!
Jim captured the moment on video. Looks like a LOT of fun…
Here is a video of the Weiners on Water Hot Dog Boat:
And here is the link to an interview I did with Robin: A Hot Dog Cart At The Beach? Dream Job Becomes Reality For Robin Delancy.
Selling hot dogs and making friends in the process. I love it!

Hey, fellow slingers,
Be careful what you send Steve! You never know if you might find it showing up here:)
ARRRRRRR, Matey Jim, that were a real fine meetup alongside WOW! And thanks for pointing out Mama eagle at her nest! Friends, there’s a nice eagles nest with one fledgling in the nest right across from your lunch stop at WOW. Whether you have a motorboat, kayak, canoe or hiking shoes it’s a beautiful place to see. Jim, I think your gig has to be one of the best locations ever! Wish I could get a gig like that, but I love mine too.
Now, heave ho, Matey! It’s YOUR turn to come and see mine!
I didn’t know you were fluent in Pirate, Robin! LOL.
Aye, matey, I can blabber in a number of tongues!
You should hear the language my brother and I invented. We call it Shumsong because it sounds Chinese.
It really is a great gig & I love it. Can’t think of any place else to be.
I will sail to Lakeside Lunch in the near future. ( In my land ship )
It was quite the surprise to see Dixie paddle up !! Was great to see her.
It has been a good year so far. The weather has been good on the weekends.
Another big weekend coming up too !!
Happy Independence Day to Steve & all you hard working slingers out there.
God bless the all American hot dog !!! Arrrrrr har har harrrr !!
1St Mate Jim.
Remember fellow hot dog slingers, those brave American soldiers overseas paved the way for us to sell hot dogs in this great America, where small business paved the way with free enterprize system, so say a prayer for these brave men and women!\
Have a question if any one has suggestions on a traveling permit, where can sell hot dogs anywhere across this great land, all part of the hot dog plan from the hot dog man! Thanks for any helpful suggestions!

I also have a hot dog boat on the water in Wisconsin on Castle Rock Lake called the Water Dawg, it’s a lot of fun selling hot dogs on the water.
Send me some pics Dee!!!!!
Aye matey, send some pics !!
1St Mate Jim.
Very cool!
We have a large lake which covers two states and more counties than I can count. Who would have to approval to vend on a lake, which health department, which county, which state!! For me I love the land so I don’t think that DUGGS DOGGS will ever be on the water but I can see the need and the customer base would be there…Good!! Good!!
Good question. I don’t really know. If it were me I would just do it. If it turns out that you need more permits than you currently have someone will let you know. Odds are that if you are questioned and you show them your health department certification and a current business license you will be considered legit. If not, they will tell you what else you need to do to be legal.
This would be my approach if I already had a boat. If I were starting a hot dog boat from scratch and was going to invest a significant amount of money in a boat and equipment, I would be more diligent about researching the permits necessary.
You would have to get a permit from the town or towns as well as a state tax ID.
You also have to operate within the jurisdiction of the town.
If you want to operate in more than one town you need permits for each town.
It would not be cost effective. And the fuel cost would be a consideration too.
I would research & pick a busy location & get a tag from that town.
Pick a spot near a launch ramp or busy area & stay put. After awhile people will know where to find you. Saves a lot of gas. Duggs Water Dogs !!!
Arrrrr har har har !!!
1St Mate jim.
Great advice from someone who’s been there, done that. Thanks Jim!
