I owe you an apology…

It has come to my attention that not everyone thought my April Fools Day spoof was funny.

If that’s you, I’m very sorry. I honestly meant no harm. It was just a silly parody designed specifically for the April Fools Day festivities.

In order to show my sincere respect, I have removed it. Not because I was asked to, but because it’s the right thing to do.

I guess you are right Steve, even though at the time I thought it was funny. Hitler and the Nazi’s were very evil to the Jews and others that they shouldn’t be used in comedy. We should never take what they were and turn it into something else. I am sorry now that I didn’t feel that way when I watched it.

Uh, But it was funny! This just comes under “you can’t please all of the people all of the time. It was not in bad taste, it was humor. In this day an age people are so wrapped up in political correctness. The video did not make Hitler look like a great guy. It made the 3rd Reich look like a bunch of morons. A Texas A&M student won a contest on how to define Political Correctness. His or Her answer was ” Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.” I would like to view that video again. How about putting it to a vote of your readers. At least that’s democratic.

Well, I guess it was just a matter of time before Political Correctness hit the hotdog world as well. It’s a shame that we have become such a “sensitive” bunch that we can’t make a joke anymore. For those of you that found the parody funny…I agree, it was VERY funny. For those of you that found it offensive…I’m sorry you were offended…but really, get a life folks. Life itself, at times, can be offensive. Grow up and sprout a pair…or a spine, or something.

Political correctness means not saying something which is both important and factual for fear of reprisal.

In this case it was just a stupid video.

If it hurt someone’s feelings, of course I’m going to take it down.

sadly, we live in a time where no matter what is done, someone will have their feelings hurt.

I am offended by everyones thin skin.

Now I run the risk of being called out by the national association of thin skinned americans.

To take one of the most powerful and influential figures in the history of the world and reduce him to managing a hot dog cart on a street corner … we should find that offensive?!? You can’t erase the memory of his existence … we can only mourn the loss and suffering of those that fell under his tyranny … and at the same time, celebrate the fact that he is gone forever!

Seriously, you are a good man, Steve! Of the highest caliber. The customer is always right, right? But hey, if it wasn’t for the Germans we wouldn’t have frankfurters or weinerschnitzels. And if it wasn’t for YOU we might all be walking around with those stupid hotdog back packs instead of using these super cool EZ Built Carts. So, ya do what ya gotta’ do and rock on, Dog Man, cuz you are the Lead Dog!

I found the video to be humorous and was not offended but I commend you for respecting those that were.

It is not possible to please everyone, so keep doing what you do and let the chips where they may. In my opinion, most of this PC talk is bovine scatology anyway. No offense, of course!

The fact that you are hurt by hurting someone else shows your good character, Steve. Chin up. Whoever took offense can take comfort knowing that Hitler is certainly in a very hot place and being held at well over 140 degrees!

I lost relatives to those Nazi monsters. I am not Jewish, I am of Polish ancestors. Eleven million lives were lost in the Holocaust, six million were Poles.

If I were to get offended (and I certainly am not) it would be by people that seek to remove a video that makes Hitler look like a buffoon.

Some people spend their entire lives looking for opportunities to be offended. Others live and enjoy their lives. It doesn’t mean we should forget.

I thought the movie was educational. We are from Ill. and use ketchup and mustard on hot dogs. My kids also use ketchup on tacos. Yuck!!! If someone is offended by that…To bad. I think it’s funny.

Steve, you can’t help it the way people feel about certain things. It is their problem, not yours. You can take the movie away but that is not going to fix their problem.

I used to worked at a place that believed in group punishment. If one person was offended or did something stupid, or took advantage of a situation, everyone suffered.

You help many many people including myself. If a few don’t like what they see or read here, they don’t hafta come back to your website.

There are a lot of places on the web that I don’t go to because I don’t like what I see.

Thank you for what you are doing here and in my world. I am starting to build a version of the EZbuild cart. It is going to be 48″ x 72″ with a fridge added to the design.

Keep up the great work.

My two cents,

J.D.

Listen, everyone is talking about political correctness and all. But you know what, it has nothing to do with political correctness and everything to do with common courtesy and decency. I am 35 and no one in my family was affected by Hitler or the Nazis (like many of you) however it does not keep me from appreciating someone else’s pain. Unfortunately, I did find the piece humorous when I first saw it, not putting myself int the shoes of another who was affected by Hitler and the Nazis. We are a selfish society by nature and only relate to things as they relate to US. Have we become so jaded as to not feel for someone else’s persecution? Everyone keeps saying people need to have thicker skins, not be so sensitive, etc., etc., etc. Let me ask you all this question: If your mother was raped, tortured and brutally murdered by “Joe X” and years later someone decided to make a parody out of her malicious and brutal persecution; making “Joe X” seem like a bafoon yet bringing comedy to the heinous acts he committed against your mother nonetheless, WOULD YOU FIND IT FUNNY OR OFFENSIVE?

Give me a break!!! This video is so obviously humor that the overly sensitive people need to move on. Maybe we should just change history (kind of like the school books that were just approved). I’m sure this site is offensive to all the Vegans out there, are you going to shut it down? Of course not! My finding the clip funny does definitely not mean that I condone anything Hitler did nor do I believe in his ideology. It means that I like humor as it was intended.

So the Zen master steps up to the hot dog cart and says: “Make me one with everything.”

The hot dog vendor fixes a hot dog and hands it to the Zen master, who pays with a $20 bill. The hot dog vendor puts the bill in the cash drawer and closes the drawer.

“Where’s my change?” asks the Zen master. And the hot dog vendor responds: “Change must come from within.”

I think it’s funny that Mel Brooks (who’s Jewish) can make a movie “The Producers” that he originally wanted to call “Springtime for Hitler” and that parody was fine. No matter what you do, you’ll always have one small percentage of people who “take offense”. So I guess you should only make jokes about white, male, Christians and you’ll be fine. Political correctness rears it’s ugly head.

Reply

Dave

Yeah- dont feel bad Steve, theres been hundreds of the Hitler parodies which have been a controversy on Youtube too. For those who are wondering what this is about, its a movie clip (public) of Hitler’s internal ranting right before the regime fell, with parody subtitles inserted under the visuals. Its like a spoof, a parody. Some are overly sensitive, assuming that if someone laughs at a parody, they give credence to the obvious evil of hitler. how they make that connection is insulting- and beyond me.

Reply

Cindy

You sure do NOT owe me an apology. The man was evil and it was a joke. It’s nice to know you are caring and compassionate. The unfortunate thing in this is that it sounds like someone may be a Hitler sympathizer and did not like it that Hilter looked like an idiot.

I took it down on my own because I realized if this made even one person feel bad, it’s no good.

I have found in the last decade or so, that Humor is needed in our daily lives, to even cope with daily stress. By doing what you felt was the right thing to do, tells me that you have a heart for others and that is what any and everyone in this special group needs to remember. I do believe that the Jewish Nation needs our support and love, I guess that is why American folks can stand on a corner and sell, Hot Dogs. Because of the Blessing of the Jews “Our Freedom”. I hope this does not trigger anyones gun.

I think its a shame that someone would be hurt by the video, I hate anything about Hitler and I love my jewish folks, but I did not find anything offensive in it, it was just funny, I care about people’s feelings too, but you can’t please everyone all of time. Some people are offended at the fact that animals get slaughtered so we can sell our dogs, but are we gonna stop selling hot dogs or burgers etc.
This goes to show that everyone got a problem with something, hey if you don’t like, don’t look at it. as for me I loved it. send it to my email.
thanks

I wouldn’t expect anything less from Steve, his morality is impecable. I don’t want to get into this arguement as to whether or not it was politically correct or not, or whether or not you are helping somoene out, I understand your reason for pulling it off and I respect you for it. I myself wasn’t offended by it but I can see how some would be. Thanks for being sensitive enough to see that and to do what you felt was the right thing to do.

Good comedy ALWAYS hurts someone’s feelings.

Of course, good comedians don’t stop using jokes because ‘some’ don’t appreciate the humour.

So Steve, don’t quit your job and go into comedy, you’re too kind, lol.

I just finished a nice long post here; look at it again and said…Why waste my time on someting so trivial. I thought the video was just what Hitler and henchmen deserved. Hey everyone,
Steve made a decision to remove something someone found offensive. Although I wasnt offended I applaud Steve for doing something he felt was right and correct and for not blowing into a political and social issue. Simply, he removed it. That shows me he cares about everyone and reinforces my thoughts that he will do everything to help all of us be successful!! Thanks Steve!
